Job Description

The Echo Valley School District invites qualified applicants for the position of Interim School Principal at Washington Village School (WVS). WVS is a PK–4 school located in Washington, Vermont, with an enrollment of 117 students. We seek a student-centered leader who can foster strong relationships, promote high-quality instruction, and ensure a smooth leadership transition for students, families, and staff.

Responsibilities
  • Serve as instructional leader of the school.
  • Maintain a strong, safe, and supportive school climate conducive to learning.
  • Lead day‑to‑day operations.
  • Maintain fidelity to the supervisory union and continuous improvement plan, making decisions with consideration for system priorities and initiatives.
  • Supervise and evaluate staff to improve teaching and learning.
  • Use data to inform decision‑making focused on students.
  • Articulate progress and well‑being of school and students to the school community.
  • Develop building‑specific policies and practices to support the educational mission of the school and district.
  • Facilitate development and implementation of a shared vision of learning supported by all stakeholders.
  • Promote success of every student through an inclusive culture and instructional program conducive to student learning and staff professional growth.
  • Coordinate and manage the organization, operations, and resources for a safe, efficient, effective learning environment.
  • Collaborate with faculty, staff, principal colleagues, and central office staff.
  • Respond to diverse community interests and needs, leveraging community resources.
  • Act with integrity, fairness, and ethical conduct.
  • Respond to the political, social, economic, legal, and cultural context of school administration.
  • Prepare and administer the school budget and supervise finances.
  • Prepare or supervise preparation of reports, records, lists, and other paperwork required for school administration.
  • Ensure implementation and observation of all Board policies and regulations by staff and students.
  • Maintain high standards of student conduct and enforce discipline through positive behavior interventions and supports, and progressive discipline.
  • Supervise all professional, paraprofessional, administrative, and non‑professional personnel attached to the school.
Professional Responsibilities and Expectations
  • Inspire commitment to high achievement for all students.
  • Lead staff through goal‑setting and a data‑driven continuous improvement cycle.
  • Lead implementation of curriculum and instructional programs, using various teaching and assessment strategies.
  • Commit to parent‑teacher partnerships.
  • Commit to inclusion of students with disabilities.
  • Manage daily school operations efficiently.
  • Promote fairness and equity for all students and community members.
  • Maintain interpersonal skills, teamwork, organizational and planning skills, flexibility, motivation, emotional maturity, attendance, and problem‑solving skills as outlined above.
Qualifications
  • Graduate degree (master’s preferred).
  • Minimum of three years’ experience as a teacher/leader; two years’ school administrator experience preferred.
  • Eligible for licensure as a PreK‑12 principal in Vermont.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Fingerprint/criminal‑justice clearance.
  • Strong communication, computer, and interpersonal skills; typing speed of at least 55 wpm.
  • Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory in education.
  • Mathematical reasoning skills for calculations relevant to administration.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, student information systems, grading systems, assessment systems, and other design software.
  • Experience supporting diverse students, including students of color, English‑language learners, and LGBTQ+ students.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality in all aspects of job performance.
Physical Demands

Regular duties include sitting, talking, hearing, walking, using fingers, and occasionally standing and reaching. The job may require lifting up to 50 pounds.
