Position Summary:

Rutland City Public Schools is seeking a professional, collaborative, and student-centered educator to join our team as a K–2 Elementary Teacher. We are looking for a passionate teacher who is committed to creating a classroom environment where all students feel supported, valued, and empowered to grow academically, socially, and emotionally. The K-2 Elementary Teacher supports diverse learning needs while building a strong classroom community.

Students learn and grow together across grade levels in an environment that emphasizes collaboration, relationship-building, and differentiated instruction. The successful candidate will foster a nurturing and inclusive learning space that supports students as they develop both foundational academic skills and strong social‑emotional competencies. We are seeking an educator with a strong instructional background in early elementary literacy, mathematics, and social‑emotional learning, who is comfortable adapting instruction to meet the needs of a wide range of learners.

Responsibilities
  • Plan and deliver engaging, developmentally appropriate instruction aligned with Vermont standards for students in grades K-2 within a classroom setting.
  • Build a classroom environment that promotes belonging, respect, and positive relationships among students.
  • Support students’ social-emotional development alongside academic learning.
  • Use formative assessment and student data to guide instruction and make responsive decisions for whole-group and small-group learning.
  • Differentiate instruction to support students with varying academic abilities, learning styles, and developmental needs.
  • Collaborate with colleagues, specialists, and support staff to ensure student success.
  • Communicate regularly with families and caregivers to support student learning and development.
  • Participate actively in school-wide initiatives that promote positive school culture and student well‑being.
  • Use basic computer or technology tools to support classroom documentation, communication, and program needs.
Knowledge and Skills

Applicants with experience or knowledge in the following areas will be favorably considered:

  • Early elementary literacy instruction and foundational reading skills
  • Elementary mathematics instruction and conceptual understanding
  • Social-emotional learning and relationship-based classroom practices
  • Trauma-informed practices
  • Restorative approaches
  • Positive behavioral interventions and supports (PBIS)
  • Multi-tiered systems of support (MTSS)
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field, required.
  • Valid Vermont Teaching License (or ability to obtain), required.
  • Three (3) years of successful classroom teaching experience, preferred.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to remain in a stationary position for extended periods and move throughout the facility as required to perform job duties.
  • Ability to sit, bend, stoop, reach, and perform repetitive motions related to teaching tasks.
  • Ability to lift and carry materials and equipment weighing up to approximately 25 pounds.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students, staff, and families in person and through various communication methods.
  • Ability to operate standard classroom and office equipment, including computers and instructional technology.
  • Ability to maintain regular attendance.
  • Schedule and duties may vary based on assignment and school needs.
