Overview

Join the Rutland DMV team in a fast-paced, customer-focused role! The Motor Vehicle Examiner II will issue licenses, permits, and Commercial Driver's Licenses, and will administer written and road tests. You'll also assist with vehicle registrations, renewals, and provide general customer support.

This is an in-person position based at the Rutland DMV.

Although the full salary range for this position is provided, new hires are typically made at the salary range minimum.

In accordance with Title 23, Section 102(d), an applicant must agree to be finger‑printed and pass a background investigation to be eligible for this position. The background investigation may include criminal, financial and traffic records checks. Hiring managers will notify applicants who are in the final stage of the interview process of the fingerprinting and background check requirement, to which an applicant must agree to be deemed eligible for this position.

Environmental Factors

Duties are performed mostly outside in the field and some in an office setting. Incumbents must be able to work quickly and accurately under pressure before the public eye. Due to significant public contact, exposure to contagious illnesses is a daily risk. The incumbent will be working in all weather conditions (rain, wintery slippery roads etc.). Incumbents must be able to multi‑task and remain on task to complete their daily schedule.

Considerable human relations skills are required to deal with confused, frustrated, nervous, upset, or hostile applicants. Incumbents may be required to take over the operation of a motor vehicle in the interest of personal and public safety. Riding in various vehicles in which the incumbent has little control of the operator of the vehicle and/or environmental conditions of the vehicle or roadway.

The incumbent must be able to travel to other offices with minimal notice to assist when staffing shortages occur and various scheduled hours. Private means of transportation may be required. Some overtime work may be required. Incumbents must be able to carry heavy objects of up to 50 pounds. A uniform‑ must be worn during work hours.

Minimum Qualifications

Four (4) or more years of experience in a customer or client service role that includes significant public contact AND regular use of computer programs.

Preferred Qualifications

One (1) or more year of college coursework.

Special Requirements

A current, valid driver's license is required.

An applicant's vision must be correctable to 20/40 (Snellen Test) in both eyes, with normal color perception and field of vision.

A valid Commercial driver's license with all endorsements is required within one (1) year of employment.
