Regularly checking and recording vital signs (blood pressure, temperature, pulse, respiration) and observing patients for any changes in physical or mental condition. Basic Patient Care:
Assisting patients with activities of daily living (ADLs) such as bathing, dressing, eating, and mobility. Wound Care:
Cleaning and dressing wounds, applying topical medications, and monitoring healing progress, often following a care plan established by an RN or physician. Medication Administration:
Administering most types of medications, including oral, intramuscular, and subcutaneous injections, and in some states, IV fluids, under supervision. Specimen Collection:
Collecting biological samples such as urine, blood, or sputum for laboratory testing. Catheter Insertion/Care:
Inserting and irrigating urinary catheters and performing related care. Documentation and Reporting:
Accurately maintaining patient records, documenting all care provided, and reporting patient status
Provides essential, direct patient care under the supervision of RNs or physicians, focusing on monitoring health, administering medications, and assisting with daily living activities. They work in hospitals, nursing homes, clinics, and home health settings, performing tasks like wound care, IV maintenance, and patient education.
