Baylor Scott & White Medical Center-Lake Pointe in Rowlett, TX is a community-based hospital with all the benefits of an urban medical center due to the specialties we offer to the community which is uncommon for this size facility. Lake Pointe is licensed for 176 beds which include three medical surgical units, an intensive care unit, Labor & Delivery, New Family Unit, Antepartum, Neonatal Intensive Care, Surgical Services, Cardiac Cath Lab, Endoscopy, Interventional Radiology, and Emergency Department. The hospital carries multiple designations including Level III Trauma, Chest Pain Accreditation, Primary Stroke Accreditation, Maternal and Level III NICU. Nursing is on their journey towards Pathways to Excellence and will seek Magnet designation once they complete Pathways.

The Multispecialty Sonographer performs basic to advanced ultrasound services. These may include abdominal, Ob/Gyn, cardiac, vascular, musculoskeletal, and small parts. This position examines the patient's clinical history to identify the examination's purpose. It frames the clinical questions the examination aims to answer and expands the examination as needed.

• Performs various specialty ultrasound procedures using different equipment and techniques. Makes necessary measurements for accurate and high-quality interpretation results.
• Identifies and defines abnormalities specific to the procedure. Extends the examination scope appropriately, deviating from standard techniques when necessary. Correlates other diagnostic test results with anatomy and function. Utilizes appropriate protection measures during procedures.
• May assist physicians in procedure and operating rooms by performing ultrasound studies. This aids in complex procedures and decreases risk factors.
  
  Prepares patients for procedures and obtains clinical history, including physical findings and lab data. Tailors imaging techniques for comprehensive exams to avoid errors. Explains the purpose of the ultrasound examination to the patient and answers questions.
• Imaging team members must follow policies, procedures, and workflows. These include PACS, EMR, image exchange systems, modality worklist integrity, record management, and Bio Med services.
• Records statistics and performs daily maintenance of the ultrasound Lab and its equipment, reporting all malfunctions as appropriate.
• Acts as a resource to team members, physicians and students regarding equipment, techniques, procedures, and studies to optimize patient care.
• Works closely with ultrasound team members to ensure quality processes and follow protocols. Assists with unit or organization accreditation activities as delegated.
• Implements protocols as new technology evolves, ensures implementation and adherence to system standards.
• Assures operation of equipment by performing quality checks following manufacturer’s recommendations and troubleshooting equipment as required.

• Must be familiar with approved clinical protocols for each type of ultrasound examination to be performed.
• Must meet all qualifications for any two of these specialties:
  Ob/Gyn, cardiac, vascular, musculoskeletal, or small parts. Work at least 25% of the time in the second modality. Pediatric and adult scopes are separate specialties by certification.
• Knowledge and ability to apply complex sonographic methods, instrumentation, and techniques.
• Knowledge of relevant anatomy and physiology for each different specialty.
