Position

Purpose:

Under the general supervision of the Director of Special Services and PreK Administration, the Special Education Teacher is responsible for providing specialized instruction and support services to preschool students age three. The teacher develops and implements individualized educational programs designed to address developmental, functional, behavioral, social-emotional, communication, and pre-academic needs. The Special Education Teacher collaborates with families, educational technicians, related service providers, and community partners to support student growth and readiness for PreK and kindergarten.

Qualifications:

Maine Dept. of Education Teacher Certification (081/282) Background in special education, including knowledge of developmental and functional life skills instruction and specially designed instructional strategies. Experience implementing behavioral interventions and differentiated instructional practices based on student needs and abilities. Use of multi-modality approaches and multiple models to support students' needs effectively. Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents and staff. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with educational technicians and related service providers.

Ability to comply with mandated regulations and compliance with state and federal guidelines. Responsible for data entry and CINC management of student hours performed.

Additional Duties:
Performs other related tasks as assigned by the PreK administrative team and other administrators as designated by the Superintendent.

Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards:
Works in standard classroom and school environments. Must be able to actively engage with young children and respond appropriately to student behavioral, developmental, and physical needs.
