Lead Commissioning Engineer – Biddeford, Maine

Ideal Candidate Qualifications- Knowledge of programming and testing protection relays from GE, SEL, Alstom, Schneider, Siemens, and ABB, and the ability to develop programming macros for automated relay testing.
- Ability to understand AC and DC elementary diagrams, wiring diagrams, and one‑line drawings to create testing requirements and procedures.
- Experience developing standard testing documentation, training procedures, and maintaining project documentation including certifications and calibration records.
- Ability to obtain NICET certification or equivalent.
- Strong independent work ethic with the ability to serve as a technical lead on projects and guide lower level engineers or technicians.
- Review specifications and engineering drawings to understand substation purpose and functionality.
- Directly witness or perform critical tests such as DC functional trip testing prior to energization and in‑service.
- Direct crews during critical work junctures, including final commissioning and startup.
- Perform all electrical testing, including but not limited to protection and control equipment.
- Demonstrate proficiency in testing newly designed and experimental equipment and instill confidence in customers.
- Develop and maintain strong customer relationships, provide scheduling, and meet financial requirements.
- Manage resources and services required to install electrical equipment.
- Maintain safety consciousness in all electrical and electronic procedures at diverse work sites.
- Maintain service equipment and inventory to meet ISO and other specifications.
- Provide exceptional customer service, sales ability, and handle difficult or irate customers to achieve satisfaction.
- Assist in developing estimates for client proposals.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in electrical, mechanical, or engineering technology is required; BSEE or BSEET from an accredited institution is preferred.
- Experience (7‑10 years preferred):
- In‑depth understanding of three‑phase power systems.
- In‑depth understanding of protection and control schemes and implementation.
- Extensive experience with relay test sets such as SEL, GE, Beckwith, ABB, Basler, and other manufacturers.
- Comprehensive equipment testing of circuit breakers, transformers, circuit switchers, MOABS, CTs, PTs, batteries and chargers, transfer switches, line tuners, wave traps, carrier relays, etc.
- Experience with PQ measurements.
- Leading crews in testing and commissioning new and modified substations.
- Experience with rotating machinery, including generators and excitation systems.
- Testing previously programmed RTUs locally and remotely for system operators.
- Familiarity with SCADA, RTU, and DFR systems.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD.
- Ability to travel up to 25% and possess a valid, unrestricted driver’s license.
Seeing, color perception, hearing, listening, clear speech, dexterity in hands, driving, lifting, climbing, ability to mount and dismount equipment, pushing, pulling, and endurance in warm and cold temperatures, sun exposure, moisture, and potential exposure to hazardous materials and electrical voltages.
Working ConditionsOn‑site environments may require work in varying temperature conditions; in and/or around moisture, on slippery and/or uneven surfaces, in confined spaces, and k may involve frequent standing, driving a 4‑wheel‑drive vehicle, occasional bending, squatting, climbing, twisting, balancing, and reaching. Exposure to noise, vibrations, and chemicals may occur, and irregular or extended hours, on‑call duties, and travel may be required.
