Town of Anson – Administrator to the Select Board
Somerset County, Maine
The Town of Anson is seeking a qualified and experienced individual to serve as Administrative Assistant to the Select Board. This position plays a central role in the coordination of municipal operations and includes responsibilities commonly associated with municipal administration, finance, and statutory roles.
This position requires a high level of independence and involves responsibilities across multiple areas of municipal operations.
The position currently encompasses duties associated with an Administrative Assistant, Treasurer, Tax Collector, and Deputy Clerk functions, and requires a high level of independence, discretion, and organizational ability.
Key Responsibilities- Support the Select Board in overseeing day-to-day municipal operations
- Attend Select Board and other meetings; prepare agendas, minutes, and supporting materials
- Administer and monitor the municipal budget and financial operations
- Perform Treasurer and Tax Collector functions, including financial management and tax commitment processes
- Assist with elections, vital records, and licensing in coordination with Clerk functions as needed
- Oversee town office operations and coordinate with department heads
- Provide personnel administration support including policies and employee-related matters
- Serve as liaison with the public, businesses, and state/regional agencies
- Prepare town meeting warrants and annual reports
- Administer grants and assist with funding opportunities
- Manage procurement processes, contracts, and compliance requirements
- Maintain municipal records and ensure regulatory compliance
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Select Board
- Experience in municipal government strongly preferred
- Experience in finance, tax collection, or public administration is highly desirable
- Knowledge of Maine municipal laws and practices is a plus
- Experience with grant writing, administration , or compliance is a plus
- Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple complex responsibilities
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience with TRIO or similar software preferred
This is a highly responsible position requiring regular interaction with the public, elected officials, and staff. The successful candidate must demonstrate professionalism, sound judgment, and the ability to manage sensitive matters.
CompensationSalary and benefits are commensurate with experience.
