Position: Patrol Officers 2026

The City of Saco is seeking reliable, trustworthy, and motivated individuals to join our Police Department. This position starts at $36.57 per hour and includes an excellent benefits package.

  • Work Schedule and Availability:
    Must be able to work the established Patrol Officer schedule, which consists of 10-hour shifts, a four-day workweek, and assigned rotations of Sunday–Wednesday or Wednesday–Saturday. The position requires availability to work holidays and overtime as necessary to meet operational needs.
Position Requirements
  • Education and Certification:
    Must be a graduate of the Maine Criminal Justice Academy or otherwise meet the eligibility criteria for a waiver as established by applicable state law and regulatory standards.
  • Knowledge and Information Retention:
    Must possess the ability to comprehend, retain, and accurately recall substantial amounts of factual information, including but not limited to laws, statutes, ordinances, departmental policies, and procedural requirements.
  • Situational Assessment and Response:
    Must demonstrate the capacity to recognize hazardous or potentially dangerous situations and to take prompt, appropriate, and legally sound action to protect persons and property.
  • Emotional Stability and Self-Control:
    Must maintain composure, judgment, and self-discipline when confronted with stressful, adversarial, or rapidly evolving circumstances.
  • Professional Conduct and Public Interaction:
    Must exhibit fairness, impartiality, and professionalism in all interactions with members of the public, recognizing that differing circumstances and individuals may require varied approaches and communication methods.
  • Decision-Making and Assertiveness:
    Must be capable of exercising appropriate assertiveness and effectively influencing or directing the behavior of others when required by the duties of the position.
  • Commitment to Professional Development:
    Must demonstrate a willingness to seek out and acquire the knowledge, skills, and competencies necessary to perform the duties of a law enforcement officer at a high standard.
  • Integrity and Credibility:
    Must maintain personal and professional conduct consistent with the expectations of a law enforcement officer, including conduct that supports community trust and does not impair the individual’s credibility as a witness in judicial proceedings.
  • Accuracy and Impartiality in Reporting:
    Must be able to present information, statements, and evidence fully, accurately, and without distortion, omission, or bias.

Education and Experience:

High school diploma or equivalent required.
