The Network and Security Administrator performs technical work in the daily operation, monitoring, support, and maintenance of the City’s network, security tools, and related systems. The primary scope of the position is to ensure stable network and security operations, perform routine administration, address helpdesk escalations related to connectivity and security, and maintain documentation. Other duties include desktop support functions in conjunction with other members of the IT department.
The Network and Security Administrator provides recommendations to the Network Engineer, Systems Engineer, and IT Director to support the best possible network and security posture. This role focuses on operational responsibilities rather than design and engineering.
This full-time position offers a competitive salary range of $63,000-$85,000, based on qualifications and experience, along with an excellent benefits package.
Supervision ReceivedThe position works under the supervision of the IT Director. Tasks may be coordinated with the Network Engineer and Systems Engineer.
Position Requirements Essential Functions- Monitors and responds to network and security related helpdesk items daily. Troubleshoots and resolves basic network connectivity issues for end users, networked devices, and infrastructure components.
- Performs routine maintenance and replacement of standard network hardware components, cabling, and peripheral devices under guidance of senior technical staff.
- Monitors and supports basic firewall, VPN, and security tool operations (web filtering, endpoint alerts, access control) and escalates issues appropriately.
- Implements and follows established security practices including password policy enforcement, access control reviews, and basic vulnerability mitigation steps.
- Assists in maintaining network diagrams, inventories, IP address documentation, and security documentation.
- Tracks and monitors network performance using standard toolsets and provides initial analysis of issues.
- Provides support for physical network infrastructure including patching, labeling, and basic cable management.
- Assists departments with requests for new or changed network or telephone connections and supports installation of networked devices such as PCs, laptops, printers, and other equipment.
- Monitors and performs basic administration of access controls, user accounts, and permissions as assigned.
- Maintains knowledge of building cabling infrastructure and works with contractors when needed.
- Assists with testing, deployment, and routine updates of network and security systems.
- Performs general administrative and office duties including data entry, reporting, and documentation.
- Supports mobile device management tasks.
- Participate in staff training on applications and security awareness.
- Assists in monitoring and responding to basic alerts from web security gateways, network access controls, and endpoint security tools.
- Documents work processes, technical steps, and troubleshooting procedures following IT and ITIL standards.
- Assists in evaluating technology solutions and provides feedback to senior technical staff.
- Works with the IT Director, Network Engineer, and Systems Engineer to support ongoing security policies, procedures, and compliance needs.
- Ensures the security of networking equipment by performing routine updates and mitigation steps based on identified vulnerabilities.
- Supports CJIS related operational tasks and adheres to required processes.
Must be able to pass a CJIS criminal background check to include fingerprints.
