Overview
Volunteer Maine, in partnership with the Office for Family Independence (OFI), is developing new pathways that connect Mainers with volunteer opportunities that can support compliance with public benefit program requirements, including SNAP and emerging Maine Care community engagement requirements. The initiative focuses on expanding access to flexible, accessible, and community-based volunteer opportunities for individuals who may face barriers such as limited transportation, caregiving responsibilities, or time constraints.
The project supports stronger coordination between state agencies, nonprofit organizations, and community partners to ensure participants can more easily identify and access opportunities that meet program requirements while contributing to their communities. A central component of the work is the development of an Eligibility Pathways Hub that will serve as a coordination point for information sharing, partnership development, and volunteer pathway alignment across Maine.
The initiative also includes improvements to Serve Maine.org to better support individuals seeking volunteer opportunities connected to eligibility requirements, focusing on usability, organization, and participation tracking.
The Ending Hunger Corps Volunteer Pathways VISTA will support Volunteer Maine staff to develop systems, tools, and partnerships that connect individuals to appropriate opportunities while strengthening coordination between state agencies and nonprofit partners. A central component of this work is supporting the launch of an “Eligibility Pathways Hub” (name TBD) to align information, partners, and pathways at scale.
