Salary Range: $18.69–$25.49 (Includes
21% stipend).

Description

This role focuses on structure and craft work in the general maintenance and repair of machinery, equipment, mechanical systems, and buildings. Work involves the performance of a wide variety of mechanical tasks in the installation, general repair, and maintenance of heating, power generating, water, and electrical systems; as well as laundry, kitchen, and farm machinery and equipment; and buildings and grounds.

Assignments are received in the form of oral instructions or written work orders. Supervision may be exercised over assigned helpers. Work is performed under general supervision.

Representative Tasks
  • Perform general replacement, upkeep, and repair of heating, plumbing, and electrical fixtures or equipment such as clearing clogged drains, replacing external fixtures, and similar tasks to maintain systems.
  • Repair electrical wiring, fixtures, motors, and communication systems to maintain electrical systems and equipment.
  • Install and repair steam, water, and sewage lines to maintain plumbing and heating systems.
  • Operate and service sewage treatment plant to ensure efficient plant operation.
  • Maintain, operate, and repair heating and ventilating systems to ensure comfortable and safe environments.
  • Cleans boilers and replace and/or repair worn or broken parts to ensure safe and efficient operation.
  • Repair, maintain, and alter masonry, walls, and woodwork in buildings to ensure structural stability and meet tenant requirements.
  • Repair and service laundry and kitchen equipment to ensure safe and effective operation and maximize equipment availability.
  • Cleans, maintains, and services hand tools, machines, equipment, and work area daily to comply with safety standards, prolong equipment life, and maintain availability.
  • Operate snow removal equipment to clear walks, driveways, and roads.
  • Repair and maintain hydraulic and mechanical elevators to ensure safe and efficient operation.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required
  • Knowledge of the tools, materials, equipment, methods, and practices of plumbing, welding, electrical, and general maintenance and repair work.
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and necessary safety precautions needed to perform mechanical repair work.
  • Ability to read, understand, and follow manufacturer specifications and instructions for using, cleaning, and repairing machinery and equipment.
  • Ability to use standard power and hand tools.
  • Ability to operate acetylene and arc welding equipment.
  • Ability to clean, lubricate, and adjust small engines, electrical motors, pumps, and other machinery and equipment.
  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to apply general carpentry and masonry skills.
  • Ability to perform general mechanical repair work.

Required
  • Knowledge of applicable building and safety codes.
  • Ability to read, understand, and follow blueprints.
  • Ability to use electrical test equipment such as ohm and voltage meters.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Two (2) years of experience in the general maintenance and repair of machinery, equipment, mechanical systems, and buildings.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with the following skills or experience:
    • Knowledge of Advanced Wilderness First Aid techniques.
    • Knowledge of chainsaws and previous training in felling, limbing, and bucking trees.
    • A ClassA or B Driver’s License.
    • Knowledge of modern Search and Rescue techniques and practices.
