Position Instrumentation Specialist-Water Resource Recovery

SUMMARY
  • The Instrumentation Specialist is an essential member of the plant staff primarily performing tasks associated with the proper operation and maintenance of the facility. This position performs a variety of skilled and semiskilled technical and physical tasks in the operation, repair, and maintenance of the Saco Water Resource Recovery Facility.
  • Salary Range is $41.08-$46.27 depending on years of experience.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
  • Direct supervision is received from the Director and Deputy Director subject to applicable City Ordinances and all State and Federal regulations.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
  • Provides technical assistance and supervision over temporary/seasonal employees where scope is limited to direction, guidance, and explanation.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Works closely with the Director, Deputy Director and other plant personnel to plan and coordinate routine operational activities.
  • Works closely with the Director, Deputy Director and all other plant personnel on duty to maintain effective and open communication and cooperation between operations and maintenance staff.
  • Assists supervisory staff with scheduling, costing and controlling corrective and preventative maintenance activities; as required.
  • Maintains effective coordination and communication in daily operations and maintenance activities at the Water Resource Recovery Facility and pump stations by monitoring and reporting on signs of equipment problems, investigating and correcting minor functional problems, initiating work requests to maintenance staff and directing a change in equipment to prevent potential damage.
  • Directs and participates in the maintenance, overhauls, modification and repair of electrical systems used in wastewater processing and treatment.
  • Directs and participates in the maintenance, overhaul, modification and repair of electronic, hydraulic and pneumatic instruments and controls used in water and wastewater treatment, processing and distribution.
  • Programs PLC and SCADA controls.
  • Determines and documents proper procedures for maintenance and repair of instruments, controls and electrical systems used.
  • Assures that the electrical systems are maintained and repaired properly to provide reliability and safety.
  • Maintains up-to-date documentation for all instrumentation circuits and electrical equipment.
  • Assists in the ordering of materials and parts for the maintenance, repair, modification and overhaul of instruments, controls and electrical systems.
  • Performs preventative maintenance and repairs on mechanical and electromechanical machinery and equipment, treatment facility buildings, pump stations, structures and grounds.
  • Replaces all wearable and replaceable parts in pumps and other equipment.
  • Cleans pipes and performs other plumbing and pipe fitting tasks.
  • Installs and sets-up new equipment.
  • Updates and maintains detailed maintenance/equipment records of all work completed within the CMMS system.
  • Updates and maintains plant and pump station Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Establishes, updates and maintains a spare parts inventory program.
  • Maintains departmental tools in good working order.
  • Paints, cleans, and maintains various processing equipment, treatment buildings, and plant grounds as required.
  • Operates sludge processing equipment and mixes required chemicals.
  • Performs lab analysis associated with sludge processing.
  • Maintains logs and bench sheets; enters data into computer spread sheets; and reads and records meter and gauge readings.
  • Performs inspection and monitoring of plant and pump stations.
  • Acquires and forwards current Material Data Safety Sheets (MSDS) for all chemicals and substances associated with this position to the Lead Operator.
  • Performs custodial, grounds-keeping and snow removal duties as required.
  • Operates motor vehicles, hoists and portable equipment as required.
  • Performs maintenance duties in a safe manner. Ensures that safety instruments and equipment are maintained in proper working order, cleaned and stored properly.
  • Performs weekend and holiday facility inspections and responds to emergency alarms.
  • Assists in non-routine projects as assigned.
  • Serves on various employee or other committees as assigned.
