Under the general supervision of the Assistant Branch Chief, the Accounting Administrator I (Supervisor) plans, organizes, directs, and evaluates the operations and accounting activities of the Accounts Receivable (AR) Unit. The incumbent provides leadership, guidance, and coordination of activities to ensure that the goals, objectives, and mission of the unit are achieved. Key unit activities include collection of monies owed to the California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW), reimbursement contract billings, payroll accounts receivable, over payments, refunds, collections, unclaimed property, Franchise Tax Board offset process, and State Controller’s Office process.
The supervisor acts as liaison with other divisions, departments, and control agencies, resolves complex issues, prepares reports for management, cross‑trains staff, and directly assists other managers and supervisors in the Accounting Services Branch.
Work is performed in a high‑rise office setting with daily use of a computer, office equipment, and telephone. The position requires sitting for most of the day with occasional walking or standing. Employees may be required to attend off‑site meetings statewide. Hybrid telework is available, with staff required to work in‑office at least two days per week currently, and at least four days in 2026.

Desirable Qualifications- Experience managing operations in a multi‑funded department and complex fiscal environment.
- Strong collaboration and clear communication across internal teams, external control agencies, and auditors.
- Strong knowledge of governmental accounting standards including GAAP, SAM, UCM, and Government Code.
- Proficiency in financial or accounting systems such as FI$Cal or similar platforms.
- Skills in Microsoft Office Outlook, Excel, Word, Teams, Power BI, and financial data analysis.
- Extensive experience in planning, organizing, overseeing, and managing accurate and timely month‑end and year‑end closing financial activities.
- Strong attention to detail and analytical skills with the ability to identify trends, variances, and problem areas in accounting and financial operations.
- Experience in preparing and reviewing year‑end financial data, worksheets, statements, and related reports.
- Experience in developing and implementing accounting policies and procedures to improve efficiency and ensure compliance.
