Under the direct supervision and guidance of the Accounting Administrator II and the Accounting Administrator I lead, the incumbent performs professional level accounting duties in the Accounting Analysis Unit within the State Controller's Office (SCO) Departmental Accounting Office (DAO). The incumbent will use knowledge of accounting principles and procedures, governmental accounting and budgeting, the uniform accounting system, related laws, rules and regulations, and the principles of business management to record and analyze accounting transactions using Financial Information System for California (FI$Cal) accounting system and various software programs.
DutiesPerformed
- Deposit, remit, and analyze payments for all monies belonging to Business Units 0840 and 9100. This includes applying payments to open receivable items for reimbursements/abatements; payroll accounts receivables, clearing travel and salary advances, remitting revenue for Tax Admin and Unclaimed Property Program, and miscellaneous revenue. Generates at least monthly the Receipt Remittance Report from FI$Cal to analyze the application, classification, and completion of deposit transactions.
Remit all unidentified monies to the uncleared collection account. Analyze disposition of monies deposited into the un-cleared collection account and remit accordingly. Analyze, apply and reclassify direct transfer payments. Ensure monies received and entered in the Cash Log are properly accounted for monthly. Prepare, review, and analyze deposit corrections. - Prepare, review, approve, certify and submit deposit transactions in FI$Cal. Request Office Revolving Fund (ORF) and General Cash (GC) checks for dishonored checks, over payments of revenue, CalATERS claims, and other miscellaneous items. Reconcile deposit transactions.
- Perform complex allocations, reclassifications, and plan of financial adjustment entries in FI$Cal as a backup on an as needed basis. Perform zero-dollar-deposits to escheat revenue for uncashed checks. Prepare analytical reports requested by management. Independently perform complex accounting and fiscal reporting functions including analyzing, recording, and posting of fiscal transactions and journal entries to the General Ledger.
- Run, format and analyze budget to actual and expenditure reports on a monthly basis. Coordinate with budget staff to answer any questions regarding the reports. Ensure desk procedures are up to date and reference updated FI$Cal Job Aids. Coordinate with Supervisor for troubleshooting issues that arise in FI$Cal. Back up, cross train and assist other Accounting Analysis Unit staff as needed.
Work on special projects as assigned by management. Provide back-up coverage for the DAO reception desk as needed.

Working ConditionsThis position is located at The Emerald Tower on Capitol Mall, steps from Tower Bridge and is walking distance to the State Capitol. It is conveniently situated only blocks from Old Sacramento, numerous restaurants, a seasonal farmer's market, and the Crocker Art Museum.
Overlooking the Golden 1 Arena and Downtown Commons, the office is accessible from Sacramento Regional Transit's light rail and bus systems, with convenient access to I-5, I-80, US 50 & US 99.
This position is eligible for hybrid telework under California Government Code Section 14200 for eligible applicants residing in California. All telework schedules are subject to change and may be reevaluated at any time. Specific telework arrangements may be discussed in more detail with the respective hiring manager. Telework does not change the terms and conditions of employment, the essential functions of job duties, or required compliance with the State Controller's Office policies.
In July 2025, the State of California implemented the Personal Leave Program (PLP) 2025. This program temporarily reduces employees' monthly base pay in exchange for paid leave credits. This position is subject to PLP 2025 and will have a monthly base pay reduction of 3% in exchange for 5 hours of leave credits through June 2027. The salary ranges shown on this job posting do not reflect the salary reduction.
