Job Description and Duties
The California Department of Education (CDE) is seeking a hard-working, enthusiastic individual to join its Assessment Development and Administration Division as an integral part of a team that supports California educators in understanding and administering statewide student assessments. We are looking for someone who is motivated, resourceful, and detail-oriented to provide complex clerical support to office managers and staff within this fast-paced division.
This full-time position is hybrid (i.e., work in the office 2 days a week) and requires effective organization and time-management skills. Under general supervision of the Education Research and Evaluation Administrator I of the English Language Proficiency and Spanish Assessments Office, the incumbent for this position is responsible for:
* Answering and routing incoming phone calls and emails
* Scheduling meetings using Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Teams, and Zoom
* Creating and editing documents and correspondence using Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Access, and Adobe Acrobat according to CDE's Correspondence Guide and Style Manual
* Assisting division staff with a variety of program-related tasks
* Tracking program documents and activities
* Preparing and maintaining electronic and hard copy filing systems
* Reviewing and editing documents for basic grammar, content accuracy, punctuation, and format
* Creating and maintaining new documents and text for division web pages
* Making travel arrangements for division staff
* Ordering office supplies and tracking order status

Working Conditions
HYBRID
This position is headquartered in Sacramento and may be eligible for a hybrid telework schedule for eligible applicants residing in California. A hybrid telework schedule includes working remotely and physically reporting to the office.

Special Requirements

You must obtain a valid typing certificate confirming your ability to meet the minimum typing speed, prior to being hired. Personal Leave Program (PLP) 2025
Effective July 1, 2025, the State of California implemented the Personal Leave Program (PLP) 2025. This position is subject to PLP 2025 and will have a monthly base pay reduction of 3% in exchange for 5 hours of leave credits through June 2027. The salary range(s) shown on this job posting does not reflect the salary reduction.
Copy of a valid typing certificate, issued within the last 4 years, indicating the ability to type at least 40 words per minute is required. Typing certification must be 5 minutes in length and proctored.
