Executive Assistant, Office of the CEO (Project Management) Position Summary

The League of California Cities is looking for a highly skilled and professional Executive Assistant with exceptional attention to detail to provide high‑level, confidential administrative support to the CEO/Executive Director and Executive Office. This position serves as a trusted strategic partner in supporting executive‑level initiatives and requires the ability to exercise sound judgment, discretion, and professionalism. The Executive Assistant provides key support to the Cal Cities Board of Directors and Executive Committee in carrying out their leadership and governance responsibilities, manages complex projects and stakeholder relationships, and operates effectively in a fast‑paced, highly visible executive environment.

Executive

and Governance Department

Essential to the Cal Cities strategic mission to be recognized and respected as the leading advocate for the common interests of California cities, the Executive and Governance team provides high‑level leadership, coordination, and governance support across the organization. The team works closely with the Executive Director and CEO, the Board of Directors, and senior leadership to support executive operations, Board and committee functions, and organizational strategy.

Through these efforts, the team ensures strong governance practices, effective decision‑making, and alignment with Cal Cities' mission, priorities, and governing framework.

Work Schedule and Travel

Cal Cities' normal workweek is Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Travel as needed to locations throughout California in the performance of duties.

Compensation and Benefits
  • Salary:
    Commensurate with qualifications and experience. Full salary range $78,600 - $118,000. A qualified candidate will most likely fall in the $90,000 - $93,385 salary range.
  • Retirement:
    California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS) 2% at 60 for classic CalPERS members; 2% at 62 for new CalPERS members.
  • Deferred Compensation:
    Employees may defer compensation through Cal Cities' Mission Square 457 defined contribution plan.
  • Health/Dental/Vision Insurance:
    Employees participate in an optional benefit program that includes dental insurance, vision insurance and medical coverage selected from three HMO, two PPO plans, and two HSA plans.
  • Life Insurance:
    Employer‑paid life insurance coverage for employees. Supplemental employee‑paid coverage is available.
  • Other Benefits:
    Under employer's optional benefit program, employees may use a portion of their salaries on a pre‑tax basis to cover childcare and/or certain health care expenses.
  • Vacation:
    Two weeks annually; three weeks after five years of service.
  • Holidays:
    Employees receive twelve paid holidays annually.
  • Sick Leave:
    Employees earn twelve days annually.
