Position is located in Sacramento Headquarters. Under the general direction of the Business Taxes Administrator (BTA) II, Compliance Principal, the BTA I is responsible for a variety of compliance, and administrative functions. The BTA I manages and controls vital day-to-day operational functions to promote compliance, deter fraud/tax evasion and enhance compliance for all programs administered by the California Department of Tax and Fee Administration (CDTFA).

As part of these operational functions, the incumbent directs team members to conduct investigations, research and review leads, visit businesses, analyze cases, and evaluate documents, books and records, and financial documents. The incumbent integrates and applies practices, policies and procedures across both compliance and audit functions and may work with external teams to keep work coordinated, managed and productive. The incumbent is responsible for motivating, training, and developing team members, and monitoring employee performance.

Travel may be required up to five percent (5%) of the time, which may include overnight.

Under Government Code 14200, this position may be eligible for partial telework for eligible candidates residing in California. All telework/hybrid schedules require staff to report to the office a minimum number of days per week. Schedules are subject to change.

Currently, per the California Budget Act of 2025, all California Department of Tax and Fee Administration salaries are subject to the provisions of the State of California's Personal Leave Program.
