Overview

The Sacramento Crisis Nursery is a family-strengthening program, where parents can bring their children ages 0-5 to one of two Sacramento nurseries for emergency childcare services or overnight care during difficult times. Our mission is to prevent child abuse and neglect by providing support to families in times of crisis.

The Child Care Worker I or II, under the supervision of the Crisis Nursery Supervisor and the work direction of the Lead Childcare Worker, assists in the total child care and supervision functions of the Crisis Nursery. This position is responsible for ensuring the health, safety and basic needs of children are met and for performing household tasks to comply with standards.

Saturday – Sunday, 3:00pm – 11:00pm,
Mandatory Staff Meeting (Wednesday, 1:00pm – 3:00pm)

Salary

$22.19 - $24.96 per hour, to start, or $20.77 - $23.36 per hour, to start

Qualifications

Driving is an essential function of this job, and as such, employees in this position will be required to furnish their own vehicle to be used in the course of employment. A valid driver’s license and minimum insurance coverage is required.
Must be at least 21 years old.

Experience and

Education:

Child Care Worker I ($22.19 - $24.96)

A high school diploma or general education degree (GED) is required.

Completion of 12 postsecondary semester units or equivalent quarter units, with a passing grade, as determined by the institution, in classes with a focus on early childhood education, child development, or child health at an accredited college or university, as determined by the department is required;

OR
Completion of 9 postsecondary semester units or equivalent quarter units, with a passing grade, as determined by the institution, in classes with a focus on early childhood education, child development, or child health at an accredited college or university, as determined by the department and six months of work experience in a licensed group home, licensed infant care center, or comparable group child care program or family day care is required.

Six months/more months of work experience in a licensed group home, licensed infant care center, or comparable licensed group childcare program is preferred. Previous experience working with infants and children up to age 5 is preferred.

Ideal candidates will possess an Associate’s Degree or Bachelor’s Degree in Human Development, Human Services, Psychology, Sociology, Social Work, Behavioral Science, Child Developmentor a related behavioral health/social servicesdegree.

Child Care Worker II ($20.77 - $23.36)

A high school diploma or general education degree (GED) is required.

Six months of experience in a licensed group home, licensed infant care center, or comparable program is preferred. Previous experience working with infants and children up to age 5 is highly desired.

Ideal candidates will possess an Associate’s Degree or Bachelor’s Degree in Human Development, Human Services, Psychology, Sociology, Social Work, Behavioral Science, Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or related behavioral health/social services degree.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
  • Knowledge of child development and ability to provide care for children 0-5 years of age.
  • Ability to understand and implement program/CCL policies, systems, standards, etc.
  • Ability to relate with children in a nurturing and respectful manner.
  • Ability to establish and maintain appropriate boundaries with children and families.
  • Ability to follow work direction, accept constructive feedback, and demonstrate positive teamwork.
  • Ability to accept supervision within the Crisis Nursery program and relate constructively to authority.
  • Ability to work effectively independently, as well as part of a team.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with a variety of people external to the program, including representatives of other institutions and agencies and parents of the children.
  • Ability to perform housekeeping tasks, including but not limited to, cleaning, washing clothes, preparing meals, etc.
