Position: Resident Engineer (Highways & Roads)

RESIDENT ENGINEER (CA Professional Engineer License (PE) required)
  • Contract administration and construction management services.
  • Testing procedures to ensure that deliverables are clearly defined, acceptance tested, and that criteria are specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, and time‑bound.
  • Maintaining and organizing project files for record tracking and auditing.
  • Developing, organizing, facilitating, and attending coordination meetings.
  • Implementing and maintaining quality control procedures to manage conflicts, ensure product accuracy, and identify critical reviews and milestones.
  • All applicable safety measures required.
  • Invoice requirements for accuracy and completion before requesting Caltrans approval.
  • Monitoring and maintaining required DBE or DVBE involvement.
  • Compliance with the provisions in this Contract and all specific Task Order requirements.
  • Familiarity with prevailing wage issues and requirements of State of California.
  • Reviewing the Critical Path Method (CPM) schedules and providing expert comments.
  • Health and safety of personnel working in a hazardous environment in accordance with all applicable Federal, State, and Local regulations.
  • Read and interpret construction drawings and specifications, and identify discrepancies or conflicts within the documents.
  • Maintain accurate daily records of the contractor's daily activities and the work performed, and of the labor, equipment and materials used.
  • Review construction for Contract compliance.
  • Track quantities and develop pay estimates for acceptance.
  • Attend and/or chair construction progress meetings.
  • Conduct observations of the installation and acceptance testing of completed equipment and systems.
  • Identify nonconforming work, develop project punchlists and maintain until corrected.
  • Develop record documentation for engineer review/acceptance.
  • Assist with project audit/closeout.
  • Work under general supervision of a Design Project Manager.
  • Supervise and direct the activities of junior Resident Project Representatives and Construction Inspectors, testing services and subconsultants.
  • Perform other duties as needed.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Technology, or combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Minimum of 10 years progressive construction experience on multidisciplinary projects.
  • Fundamental understanding of contracts and familiarity with codes and laws governing construction.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications and identify discrepancies or conflicts within documents.
  • Team‑orientation with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Computer literate, experienced with Microsoft Office, Primavera, or related construction packages.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Commitment to being an active participant in our employee‑owned culture.
