Construction Project Engineer

$75,000 - $85,000 per year | Sacramento, CA | On-Site | Permanent

The Construction Project Engineer directs and assists with management of assigned commercial construction projects while following organizational policies, programs, budget, and schedules to accomplish goals and objectives. This position also directs assigned projects with adherence to planning, execution, monitoring, and closing within standard project management methodology.

• Help and assist the Project Manager and Superintendent in the management and execution of construction projects, including scheduling, cost control, expediting, quantification, estimate/pricing, and safety.
• Prepare submittal log updates and RFI updates with emphasis on outstanding submittals and unanswered RFIs.
• Study and learn submittal requirements; ensure that subcontractors make timely submittals; review subcontractor submittals for conformance with specifications and contract documents; transmit subcontractor submittals to the architect or the design team for review and approval, maintain status log, track submittal responsiveness and responses.
• Prepare, address and distribute RFIs to appropriate design consultant, owner and subcontractors.
• Check and review miscellaneous change order requests submitted by subcontractors for validity and correctness.
• Prepare construction schedule using Microsoft Project software, prepare miscellaneous estimate to justify extra work or change order.
• Prepare material take‑off and requisitions and purchase orders.
• Oversee proper completion of daily job logs and as‑built records.
• Prepare and gather all closeout documentation.
• Expedite material deliveries.
• Monitor quality control and report to the PM and superintendent.

• Bachelor’s degree desired, but not required. Working experience will be considered.
• 3‑5 years of experience in the commercial construction industry in Project Engineer/Project Management.
• Experience with construction project management software (experience with Procore desired).
• Must demonstrate leadership abilities and possess above‑average written and oral communication skills, including strong negotiation skills.
• Ability to work well in a team environment is essential.
