Contracts Manager – Commercial General Contractor (Public Works Focus)
We are seeking an experienced Contracts Manager to join a well-established commercial general contractor specializing in public works, municipal, education, infrastructure, and institutional construction projects
. This role is responsible for overseeing the full lifecycle of contract administration across multiple active projects, ensuring compliance, risk mitigation, and alignment with company and project objectives.
The ideal candidate brings deep experience working within a general contracting environment and a strong understanding of public works contracting requirements
, including prevailing wage compliance, government procurement processes, bonding, insurance requirements, and public agency contract standards.
- Lead review, negotiation, and execution of contracts, subcontracts, and purchase orders for public and private commercial construction projects
- Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and municipal regulations
, including public bidding laws and contractual obligations - Manage contract risk exposure, including identifying and resolving potential scope gaps, claims, and change order disputes
- Partner with project executives, estimators, and project managers during preconstruction and execution phases
- Oversee subcontractor contract compliance, insurance, licensing, and bonding requirements
- Develop and maintain standardized contract templates, procedures, and best practices
- Support dispute resolution, claims management, and legal coordination when necessary
- Maintain accurate contract documentation and audit-ready records for public agency review
- 5–10+ years of experience in construction contract administration or contracts management within a commercial general contractor
- Strong background in public works / government-funded projects required
- Knowledge of construction law, AIA contract documents, and subcontractor agreements
- Experience with change order management and claims mitigation
- Strong attention to detail, negotiation skills, and ability to manage multiple active projects
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Business, Engineering, or related field preferred
