Job Title:
Assistant Construction Project Manager (Hybrid working 2 days a week in the Denton Texas Support Center)
The Assistant Construction Project Manager is responsible for developing the working schedule, budget, and resources required to build and open new and relocated Sally Beauty, Cosmo Prof, and Happy Beauty store projects. The role provides project packages to the Construction Project Manager, offering project processing details and construction timelines based on physical plant site surveys and consultations with Architecture & Engineering resources.
The position also works with field project management to provide preliminary approvals for project schedules, contractor selection, and funding, presenting these recommendations to the in‑house project manager for final approval. Additionally, the assistant project manager identifies and manages TIA funding from landlords and delegates to contractors’ scope of work details for property upgrades and improvements approved through Real Estate lease renewal approvals.
Duties
- Assemble construction project packages and assign field project managers to new store and relocation projects. Manage the pre‑construction process, ensuring that field project managers complete preliminary schedules and budgets, and provide preliminary approval to initiate construction.
- Analyze and Recommend bid contractor selection to field project managers based on general knowledge, regionality, and cost; supervise the contractor bid process and present recommendations to the in‑house project manager.
- Manage Process Adherence and progress reporting: review weekly schedule updates, balance spend vs. budget, assure municipal permitting and inspections are scheduled and completed, and log project information into a centralized data portal for weekly review.
- Invoice Review:
Review, approve, and process invoices relative to construction contractors, suppliers, and engineering services; negotiate change orders and approve potential cost increases. - Utility Account Management for new store projects, coordinating communication with local utility suppliers to transfer ownership to SBH.
- TIA Landlord Funding:
Identify and align TIA landlord funding with lease renewal Real Estate projects, develop scope of work improvements, establish total spend and timelines.
- High School graduate; some college preferred.
- Strong communication skills.
- Prior multi‑site commercial coordination experience highly desirable, preferably in real estate or construction.
- Strong organizational skills and basic understanding of commercial building services and provider networks.
- Experience working within third‑party technology call center and data metric platforms.
- Experience in financial budget management.
- Multitasking ability to manage both large and small‑scale projects within designated timelines and budgets.
- Experience utilizing CAD software a plus.
- Excellent PC and Microsoft Excel skills.
- Ability to analyze basic accounting and budget reconsolidation.
- Self‑starter capable of working well within both well‑defined and unstructured situations and proactively identifying business improvement areas.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills with all levels of management.
- Ability to interact with third‑party field resources and contractors at all organizational levels.
- Collaborative approach to achieve desired results and provide best‑in‑class customer service to stores.
Physical Requirements
The work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts requiring normal safety precautions typical of offices, meeting rooms, retail stores, and commercial vehicles. Duties include use of office equipment, avoiding trips and falls, observance of fire regulations and traffic signals, and standard sanitary practices. The work area is adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated. The job is sedentary; however, occasional walking, standing, bending, carrying light items, and operating a keyboard or automobile may be required.
