Overview

EDMO is a thriving educational nonprofit that has been inspiring and empowering young minds since 2004. We employ 30+ full-time professionals and 400+ seasonal staff, delivering out-of-school programs, award-winning summer camps, and after-school programs with a focus on STEAM and SEL education. EDMO partners with school districts across Northern California to make learning engaging and accessible. We seek team members who share a commitment to curiosity, courage, and kindness.

Description

EDMO’s summer team members spend 5-10 weeks connecting with kids, developing leadership skills, and making a real impact, while engaging in kid-friendly activities and costumes. This role helps kids uncover talents and develop transferable professional skills (e.g., problem-solving, classroom management, coaching). An EDMO Instructor teaches all STEAM and SEL curriculum for TK-8th graders (location varies). Instructors train on EDMO curriculum instruction and lead their assigned groups through the camp day, including STEAM and SEL activities.

Main Duties Include
  • Approaching education with passion and building positive role model relationships with kids
  • Leading STEAM and SEL curriculum daily with weekly themes
  • Refining curriculum and contributing personal input as appropriate
  • Collaborating with staff to create and participate in camp games, songs, skits, and activities
  • Leading daily check-in and check-out procedures
  • Interacting with families in a professional and energetic manner
  • Cultivating healthy self-esteem and a love of learning
  • Ensuring safety and a positive experience by following EDMO policies
  • Demonstrating the EDMO Method and SPACE skills (Self-awareness, Problem-solving, Advocacy, Collaboration, Empathy) and reinforcing these qualities with staff and kids

Skills and Abilities

:
We welcome candidates from diverse backgrounds. Experience can come from work, school, volunteering, or lived experience.

  • Candidates must be at least 18 years old
  • High school diploma or GED minimum
  • 1+ year experience working with groups of kids or supporting youth programs in school, after-school camps, camps, coaching, or similar settings
  • Comfort engaging with kids and helping create a safe, positive environment
  • Ability to work well with a team and communicate respectfully with coworkers and supervisors
  • SELECT SITES:
    Completion or willingness to complete the Instructional Assistant Exam (waived with proof of Bachelor’s degree with coursework primarily in English, AA degree, or completion of 48 college-level units)
  • Dependable, punctual, and able to follow through on commitments
  • Willing to adapt, problem-solve, and stay calm in a fast-paced classroom setting

Curriculum-specific Experience May Include:

  • Science background including biology, chemistry, and physics
  • Basic science lab skills
  • Engineering
  • Enjoys storytelling, performance, or creative activities that engage children
  • Teaching credentials, coursework or units towards credentials are a plus
Physical Abilities & Working Conditions
  • Vision: ability to read small print and view a computer screen for prolonged periods
  • Hearing: tolerate exposure to noisy conditions
  • Speech: clear articulation for face-to-face and remote communication
  • Upper body mobility: ability to grasp and manipulate small objects and perform related movements
  • Strength: ability to lift, push, pull and/or carry objects up to 50 pounds; may involve moving bins or assisting in conflict situations
  • Environmental Requirements: ability to work indoors and outdoors, with interruptions and in teams or independently

Mental Requirements: Ability to read, write, understand, interpret, and apply information at a moderately complex level; basic math; sound judgment; quick information processing; the ability to manage stress.

Additional Information

Program Dates: June 1–July 17, 2026 (training the week of June
1)

Pay: $20–$22/hr depending on location/region and experience

Hours: Monday – Friday, 7:45 AM – 4:15 PM with potential for overtime

Training: 10–50 total hours of spring training
