Overview
EDMO is a thriving educational nonprofit that has been inspiring and empowering young minds since 2004. With a dedicated team of 30+ full-time professionals and 400+ summer and school year staff, EDMO is a leading provider of out-of-school programs. Our award-winning summer camps and after-school programs have reached hundreds of thousands of children, with a focus on STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) and SEL (Social and Emotional Learning).
EDMO collaborates with school districts across Northern California and aims to cultivate curiosity, courage, and kindness in every child.
Job Description
EDMO’s summer team members spend 5-10 weeks connecting with kids, developing leadership skills, and making an impact—while engaging in fun activities and delivering the EDMO curriculum. Instructors teach all STEAM and SEL content for TK-8th grade students (grade ranges vary by location), train on EDMO curriculum instruction, and lead their assigned group through the camp day, including STEAM and SEL activities.
In-person programs are planned for summer 2026.
Main duties include:
- Approaching education with passion and building positive role model relationships with kids
- Leading STEAM and SEL curriculum daily with weekly themes
- Refining curriculum and contributing as appropriate
- Collaborating with other staff to create and participate in camp games, songs, skits, and activities
- Leading daily check-in and check-out procedures for kids
- Interacting with families in a professional and energetic manner
- Cultivating healthy self-esteem and a love for learning
- Ensuring safety and a positive experience by following EDMO policies
- Demonstrating the EDMO Method and SPACE skills (Self-awareness, Problem-solving, Advocacy, Collaboration, Empathy) and reinforcing these qualities in staff and kids

Knowledge,
Skills and Abilities
We welcome candidates from diverse backgrounds. Experience can come from work, school, volunteering or lived experience.
- Candidates must be at least 18 years of age
- High school diploma or GED at minimum
- 1+ year experience working with groups of kids or supporting youth programs in school, after-school camps, camps, coaching or similar settings
- Comfort engaging with kids and helping create a safe, positive environment
- Able to work well with a team and communicate respectfully with coworkers and supervisors
- Completion or willingness to complete the Instructional Assistant Exam (sites: certain locations require additional qualifications; a Bachelor’s degree with related coursework or 48 college-level units may waive this requirement)
- Dependable, punctual and able to follow through on commitments
- Willing to adapt, problem-solve and stay calm in a fast-paced classroom setting
Curriculum-specific experience may include
- A science background including biology, chemistry, and physics
- Basic science lab skills
- Engineering
- Enjoys storytelling, performance or creative activities that engage children
- Teaching credentials, coursework or units towards credentials are a plus
Physical Abilities & Working Conditions
- Vision: Ability to read small print and view a computer screen for prolonged periods.
- Hearing: Ability to tolerate exposure to noisy conditions.
- Speech: Ability to be understood in face-to-face communications and over devices.
- Upper Body Mobility: Ability to use hands to grasp, manipulate small objects, and perform movements described (lift, reach, twist, etc.).
- Strength: Ability to lift, push, pull and carry objects up to 50 pounds; may involve moving bins or restraining parties in conflicts.
- Environmental Requirements: Ability to work in indoor and outdoor settings and manage interruptions; work collaboratively or independently as needed.
Mental Requirements
Ability to read, write, understand, interpret, and apply information at a moderately complex level; basic math; quick judgment and processing of information; follow procedures and give instructions; manage stress.
Additional information
Program Dates: June 1–July 17, 2026 (Training the week of June
1)
Pay: $20-$22/hr depending on location/region and experience
Hours: Monday – Friday, 7:45 AM – 4:15 PM with potential for overtime
Training: 10-50 hours of spring training
