Position TitleLecturer Pool – Mechanical Engineering
Position DetailsThe Department of Mechanical Engineering is comprised of 14 full‑time faculty members who support over 900 undergraduate students and more than 60 graduate students. The department offers B.S. and M.S. degree programs in Mechanical Engineering emphasizing practical applications in design, manufacturing, materials science, aerospace, energy, and thermal sciences. The department invites applications for lecturers in all areas: lower division, upper division, and graduate courses.
Duties- Instruction, class preparation, grading, and office hours.
- Other duties assigned based on departmental needs.
- Course assignments, including dates, time, and modality, are made by the Department Chair under the direction of the College Dean.
Part‑time lecturers are instructional faculty with conditional appointments based on enrollment and budget. Initial appointments typically cover one semester, occasionally one academic year. Appointments may be renewed based on department needs, funding, and performance.
Initial rank and salary are based on professional experience and educational background. Most new lecturers are hired at Lecturer A or B rank.
Salary ranges (July 2024) for the respective ranks are based on a full‑time rate of 15 weighted teaching units (WTUs). A semester comprises six payments. Pay is calculated pro‑rated based on units worked out of 15 WTUs.
Required Qualifications- Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or closely related field, or
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or closely related field with minimum five (5) years related professional experience.
- Doctoral degree in Mechanical Engineering or closely related field.
- Prior teaching experience at the university level.
- Professional experience in a related field.
- Unofficial transcript of highest degree.
- List of at least three references with contact information.
- Candidate must provide official transcripts and proof of eligibility to work in the U.S.
- Background check (including criminal records) must be completed satisfactorily before any offer.
- Position may be designated as Campus Security Authority (CSA) if identified by Director of Clery Compliance.
