Position DetailsThe Department of Geology at Sacramento State seeks qualified candidates to join a part‑time lecturer pool to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in Hydrogeology, Geochemistry, Surficial Processes, Paleontology, and Petrology, as well as general education courses in physical geology, natural disasters, oceanography, and dinosaurs.
ResponsibilitiesPart‑time lecturers will be responsible for:
- Instruction of course material
- Class preparation, including lesson planning and syllabus development
- Grading and assessment of student work
- Holding office hours and providing academic support
- Participating in departmental meetings and other assigned duties based on departmental needs
Initial rank and salary are based on professional experience and educational background. Most new lecturers are hired at Lecturer A or B rank. Salary ranges are prorated based on units worked out of the full‑time rate (15 WTUs). For example, a Lecturer A assigned 3 units at the minimum salary would receive $6,608.40 total for the semester.
Required Qualifications- Master’s degree in Geology or a related Geoscience field of study.
- Official transcripts of highest degree earned.
- Proof of eligibility to work in the U.S.
- Previous post‑secondary teaching experience in Geology.
- References with contact information.
- A background check (including criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position.
- Applicants must provide verification of eligibility to work in the U.S.; the institution is not a sponsor for H1‑B visas for non‑tenure track faculty.
- Faculty hired after Jan. 1, 2022 must perform work within the State of California if the assignment is in‑person; prior hires may work in California if the assignment is in‑person.
