Academic Research Scientist – Pharmacogenomics

Position Overview:

The salary range for this position is $80,800-$220,900. This position includes membership in the Health Sciences Compensation Plan.

We are seeking an assistant, associate, or full professor level academic research investigator in the In-Residence Series who can develop or already has an independent hypothesis‑based research program in pharmacogenomics.

Responsibilities
  • Spend approximately 90–95% effort conducting research and 5–10% teaching.
  • Develop and sustain a nationally recognized, independent research program supported by extramural funding such as NIH and other federal or foundation sources.
  • Teach didactic lectures, seminars, and laboratory courses to undergraduate, graduate, medical, or health‑professional students, and other trainees.
  • Work cooperatively and collegially within a diverse environment and build productive relationships with medical and technical staff, trainees, and external collaborators.
  • Serve as a bridge between veterinary and human medicine, working with translational animal models and human clinical research.
  • Engage with the Department’s collaborative resources, including the Alzheimer Disease Center, MIND Institute, Institute for Regenerative Medicine, NCI Comprehensive Cancer Center, Institute for Burn and Trauma, Shriners Children’s Hospital, Center for Comparative Medicine, School of Veterinary Medicine, and California National Primate Center.
Qualifications
  • Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor rank within the In‑Residence Series.
  • Independent hypothesis‑based research program in pharmacogenomics.
  • Track record of securing extramural funding (e.g., NIH, federal, or foundations).
  • Demonstrated ability to pursue a high‑impact, translational research agenda.
  • Excellent communication skills and commitment to teaching and mentoring.
  • Strong collaborative and interpersonal skills in a diverse scientific community.
Teaching

Teaching duties may include didactic lectures, seminars, laboratory instruction for undergraduate or graduate students, and small‑group teaching with residents, fellows, medical students, and other health‑professional students.

All faculty must adhere to university policies and procedures and demonstrate the ability to foster collegiality in a diverse environment.
