Position Summary

Under the general supervision of the Dean, the BHC Outreach and Admission Coordinator works to engage and inform current and prospective students (from preadmission to the university through graduation) in the educational and programmatic components and benefits of the Black Honors College (BHC).

The Coordinator is responsible for supporting the institutional progress on all initiatives for the Black Honors College. This involves collaborating with units such as Admissions & Outreach, New Student Orientation, and Academic Advising to develop and implement marketing and communication strategies and related materials.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Developing and presenting information to Sac State staff, administrators, advisors, counselors, and students through events, presentations, workshops, etc.
  • Communicating with administrators, counselors, and students at regional high schools and community colleges to explain admission requirements and post‑admission engagement resources.
  • Evaluating applications and providing conditional admissions to prospective BHC students.
  • Collaborating with the Dean and staff to provide co‑curricular activities for BHC students.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Student services experience (e.g., advising, admissions and outreach, student programming or development).
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast‑paced environment subject to frequent change.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to serve a diverse student population.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership and ability to direct staff and student employees.
  • Proficiency with standard office software (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite).
  • Familiarity with school‑based record/data systems (e.g., People Soft).
  • Ability to apply moderately complex rules, regulations and procedures.
  • Commitment to a welcoming and inclusive work environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to independently handle multiple priorities and projects.
  • Master's degree in counseling, clinical psychology, social work, higher education leadership or a related field.
  • Knowledge of Black Honors College functions, structure and outreach practices.
  • Working knowledge of CSU policies and procedures regarding marketing/public relations.
  • Experience with student support programs that foster success.

Conditions of Employment

  • Satisfactory completion of the background check process.
Employment Details

FLSA
:
Exempt (not eligible for overtime compensation)

Salary
: $5,083 – $7,228 per month

Work Hours
:
Monday – Friday 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. (occasional evenings and weekends). Summer

Hours:

7:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. (May – August) with a 30 minute lunch.
