Funeral Services Education Adjunct Assistant Professor

Position Summary

The Los Rios Community College District is seeking qualified candidates for this part-time, temporary (Adjunct) faculty position.

The adjunct faculty member shall be responsible for the following: teaching assigned classes under the supervision of the area dean; helping students fulfill their maximum potential in masteringcourse content; assessing student learning outcomes; maintaining a thorough and up-to-date knowledge in their regular teaching field; continuing professional development; utilizing current technology in the performance of job duties; maintaining standards of professional conduct and ethics appropriate to the professional position;

assisting with articulation and curriculum development and review; serving on college committees and participating infaculty governance including accreditation and studentco-curricular activities; assuming other responsibilities as assigned by the area dean; fulfilling other duties and responsibilities of an adjunct faculty member.

Initial maximum salary placement is based on academic degree, upper/graduate level units earned, and/or related professional occupation al experience per the Los Rios College Federation of Teachers Contract (the initial maximum placement is Class V, Step1). The instructional assignment may include, but is not limited to, providing funeral service education to students in the Funeral Service Education Program. Instructional subject areas may include, but will not be limited to:

• Funeral Service Directing
• Merchandising
• Counseling
• Management
• Law and Ethics
• Embalming

The instructional assignment may include, but is not limited to, teaching the following courses:

• FSE 297 Practicum in Funeral Service Education
• FSE 300 Introduction to Funeral Service
• FSE 312 Funeral Directing II
• FSE 330 Merchandising in the Funeral Service Industry
• FSE 365 Embalming II
• FSE 370 Funeral Service Counseling

• Explaining the importance of funeral service professionals in developing relationships with the families and communities theyserve.
• Identify standards of ethical conduct in funeral servicepractice.
• Interpreting how federal, state, and local laws apply tofuneral service in order to ensure compliance.
• Applying principles of public health and safety in the handling and preparation of human remains.
• Demonstrating technical skills in embalming and restorative artthat are necessary for the preparation and handling of humanremains.
• Demonstrating the skills required for conducting arrangementconferences, visitations, services, and ceremonies.
• Describing the requirements and procedures for burial,cremation, and other accepted forms of final disposition of humanremains.
• Describing methods to address the grief-related needs of thebereaved.
• Explaining management skills associated with operating afuneral establishment.
• Demonstrating verbal and written communication skills and research skills needed for funeral service practice.

• Preparing students to be members of a human servicesprofession
• Preparing students to be members of the community in which theyserve
• Participating in the relationship between bereaved families andthose engaged in the funeral services profession.
• Offering professional knowledge of and compliance with federal,state provincial/territorial, and local regulatory guidelines
• Being sensitive to the responsibility for public health, safetyand welfare in caring for human remains
