Department

The Department of Design at Sacramento State is housed in the College of Arts & Letters. The Department offers a B.A. in Design Studies, a B.F.A. in Architecture Studies, a B.F.A. in Graphic Design, a B.F.A. in Interior Architecture, and a B.F.A. in Photography.

Areas of Teaching
  • Design Studies:
    Teach undergraduate introductory design history, introductory studio classes in basic 2‑D and 3‑D composition, introductory critical thinking about design.
  • Graphic Design:
    Teach introductory undergraduate studio classes focused on 2‑D composition, symbol development, and color theory.
  • Architecture / Interior Architecture:
    Teach undergraduate lecture and studio classes in design studio, computer graphics studio, architectural history, professional career preparation, building systems/technology.
  • Photography:
    Teach undergraduate classes in digital and/or analog photography.
Duties

Part‑time lecturer duties include instruction, class preparation, grading, office hours, and other department‑assigned duties. Course assignments (dates, time, modality) are determined by the Department Chair under the direction of the College Dean.

Rank & Salary

Initial rank and salary are based on professional experience and educational background, typically Lecturer A or

B. Classification salary ranges (full‑time rate 15 WTUs) are prorated for the units taught.

Required Qualifications
  • Master’s degree, or Bachelor’s degree with at least five years of teaching or relevant professional experience in Architecture, Design Studies, Graphic Design, or Photography (or related discipline).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Terminal degree in the relevant field.
  • Prior teaching experience at the college level.
