Lecturer Pool – Physical Therapy Position Details
The Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) program at Sacramento State is a three-year program that prepares evidence-informed physical therapists with the knowledge and skills to provide patient care across diverse practice environments.
In addition to a research‑based curriculum, students complete 36 weeks of full‑time internships at three locations to learn by doing in their respective practice settings.
Areas may include orthopedics, neurorehabilitation, therapeutic measurements and techniques, clinical agents, evidence‑informed practice, cardiopulmonary rehabilitation, simulation lab, acute care, physical therapist as educator, and psychosocial issues in PT. Duties include teaching lectures and lab classes in PT evaluation and treatment, usually team‑teaching with a full‑time faculty member. Part‑time lecturer duties include instruction, class preparation, grading, and office hours. Other duties may be assigned based on departmental needs.
Course assignments—date, time, and modality—are made by the Department Chair under the direction of the College Dean.
Initial rank and salary for lecturer faculty are based on professional experience and educational background and are determined by the hiring department. Most new lecturers are hired at the Lecturer A or B rank.
As of July 2024, the classification salary ranges for the respective ranks are:
- Lecturer A: $5,507 - $6,677
- Lecturer B: $6,221 - $13,224
- Lecturer C: $6,825 - $14,523
- Lecturer D: $8,593 - $15,211
The salary ranges indicated are based on a full‑time rate of 15 weighted teaching units. A semester’s compensation is made of six payments of the base rate prorated by the units worked out of 15 WTUs.
Required Qualifications- Must have earned a PT degree or a related field degree.
- Must have a minimum of three years of clinical experience.
- Applicants must hold a current, active Physical Therapy license in California or another U.S. state and be eligible for California licensure.
- Applicants licensed in California must provide their license number at the time of application.
- Applicants licensed in another state must provide their out‑of‑state PT license number and will be required to obtain California licensure prior to appointment.
- Teaching experience at the graduate level.
- Relevant clinical specializations, e.g., Orthopedic Clinical Specialist (OCS) or Neurologic Clinical Specialist (NCS).
- Online teaching experience.

Out of State EmploymentPer CSU‑wide policy, all faculty who begin initial employment (or return from a 12‑month break) on or after January 1, 2022 are required to perform their work from within California. Faculty hired prior to January 1, 2022 must be available to work in the State of California if their assignment is in‑person.
