The Department of Philosophy, housed in the College of Arts and Letters, offers one of the largest undergraduate philosophy programs in the California State University system. In addition to the major, it provides concentrations in Ethics, Politics, and Law, and in Science, Reason and Values. It serves the campus across all GE categories.

Responsibilities

Duties of a part‑time lecturer include instruction, class preparation, grading, and office hours. Other duties may be assigned based on departmental needs. Course assignments, including dates, time, and modality, are made by the Department Chair under the direction of the College Dean.

Required Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree in Philosophy
  • At least one (1) year of previous college‑level teaching experience
  • Applicants should be capable of teaching one or more of the following courses: PHIL 2 - Ethics; PHIL 4 - Critical Thinking; PHIL 6 - Introduction to Philosophy; PHIL 26 - History of Philosophy
Preferred Qualifications
  • PhD in Philosophy
  • Experience teaching online courses
  • Ability to teach large classes
