Position Summary

The Elder in Residence (Elder) is an important element of the overall counseling program of the Esak’timá Native Student Resource Center. The Elder will meet weekly with students, both individually and in small groups, to determine specific student needs and how those needs might be met. In addition, the Elder will meet with representatives of the nine local Tribal Nations to ensure that the Center programming is responsive to student needs.

The Elder also assists Center staff with coordination of events, facilitate Talking Circle and Cultural Workshops.

FLSA: Non-Exempt (eligible for overtime compensation)

Anticipated Hiring Range
:$25.86 per hour. Anticipated hiring rate is at the entry of the classification salary range.

CSU Classification Salary Range
: $25.86 per hour - $36.59 per hour

Work Hours
:5 hours per week based on the department needs

The Esak’timá Native Student Resource Center (eh-sack-tee-mah) at Sacramento State, residing on Miwok, Maidu, and Nisenan land, strives to support the academic and holistic success of Native American and Alaska Native students and welcomes all students to come learn and engage with our communities.

The Esak’timá Native Student Resource Center provides services that support students in their academic journey including academic advising, workshops, peer advising, scholarship referrals, cultural presentations and workshops, student leadership opportunities, and connecting with campus and community resources. Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge and Abilities:

Working knowledge of the methods and problems of organization and program management; research and interviewing techniques; principles of individual and group behavior; the ability to rapidly acquire such knowledge of the organization, procedures and activities of the specific campus to which the position is assigned; and the basic principles, practices and major trends in the Student Services field to which assigned.

Ability to rapidly acquire a working knowledge of the specific objectives of the campus Student Services program and its relationship to the total campus operation; interpret and apply program rules and regulations; gather and analyze data; reason logically, draw valid conclusions and make appropriate recommendations; present clear and concise information orally and in written reports; and establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with faculty, CSU administrators, student organizations and other private and public agencies.

Experience:

Possession of these knowledge and abilities is typically demonstrated through the equivalent of one year of experience in professional Student Services work at the entry trainee level. Equivalent amounts of graduate level job related education may be substituted for the required experience.
