Position: 2026-27 AY Lecturer Pool - Geology

Position Overview

The Department of Geology at Sacramento State seeks qualified part‑time lecturers to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in Hydrogeology, Geochemistry, Surficial Processes, Paleontology, Petrology, as well as general education courses in physical geology, natural disasters, oceanography, and dinosaurs. Positions are conditional appointments based on enrollment and budget. Initial appointments are typically one semester, with the possibility of renewal based on department needs, funding, and performance.

Responsibilities
  • Provide instruction, prepare course materials, grade assignments, and hold office hours for assigned undergraduate and graduate courses.
  • Collaborate with the Department Chair and College Dean for course assignments, scheduling, and modality.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the department, such as advising, committee work, or outreach activities.
Salary and Rank

Initial rank and salary are based on professional experience and education. Salary ranges represent a full‑time rate (15 weighted teaching units) and are paid in six installments per semester. Pro‑rated pay depends on the number of units taught. Current ranges (July 2024) are:

  • Lecturer A: $5,507 – $6,677
  • Lecturer B: $6,221 – $13,224
  • Lecturer C: $6,825 – $14,523
  • Lecturer D: $8,593 – $15,211
Qualifications
  • Required: Master’s degree in Geology or a related geoscience field.
  • Preferred: Prior teaching experience at the post‑secondary level in geology or related disciplines.
