Job Description and Duties

Under direction of the Area Construction a Senior Transportation Engineer, incumbent performs various landscape architecture and transportation related tasks as required and assures the work being performed in conformance with the project's Contract Plans, special Provisions, Standard Plans and Specifications.

For those who do not have current eligibility (e.g., transfer, permissive reinstatement, or voluntary demotions) and/or who will be new to state civil services employment, you must be on the state examination list to be eligible for these positions.

This position may be eligible for telework. The amount of telework is at the discretion of the Department and based on Caltrans's evolving telework policy. Caltrans supports telework, recognizing that in-person attendance may be required based on operational needs. Employees are expected to be able to report to their worksites with minimum notification if an urgent need arises. The selected candidate will be required to commute to the headquartered location as needed to meet operational needs.

Business travel may be required, and reimbursement considers an employee's designated headquartered location, primary residence, and may be subject to CalHR regulations or applicable bargaining unit contract provisions. All commute expenses to the headquartered location will be the responsibility of the selected candidate.

Working Conditions

Position located at 3230 Riverside Avenue, Ste, 130, Paso Robles, San Luis Obispo County

Multiple positions may be filled from this recruitment.

Incumbent will be required to drive to and work at various locations throughout the District with the employee's headquarters being as assigned. The incumbent will be subject to noise, odors, and dust; extreme weather conditions when on construction project sites; when working at the base office site, will be subject to a climate-controlled environment; artificial lighting, etc.

However due to periodic problems with the heating and air conditioning, the building temperature may fluctuate.

Incumbent will be expected to have an in-office presence, and may be allowed and/or expected to telework from a home office or other appropriate location on a part-time basis. Workload may subject incumbent to night work, flexible hours, frequent changes of shift, frequent changes of work hours and workdays, and geographic transfer. Travel is required. A valid California driver's license is desired.

Incumbent may be required to travel on short-term and/or long-term expense. Vacations may be restricted during peak times. Overtime may be required. Incumbent may be required to travel in state for meetings, conferences, and training.
