Opportunity

AECOM is seeking a Mid‑level Civil Engineer experienced with water resources and/or transportation related projects for an opening in our Sacramento, CA office. In this role you’ll have the opportunity to work on flood risk management systems, locks and dams, flood walls, navigation floodgates, stormwater pumping stations, outfalls, spillways, and ecosystem restoration. Our department works on projects and with teams across the nation and the world.

We bring together the skills of project managers, civil engineers, H&H engineers, geotechnical engineers, structural engineers, and environmental and planning specialists to provide integrated, sustainable and cost‑effective solutions. Responsibilities
  • Design: Lead the preparation of plans, specifications, cost estimates, technical reports memos, and engineering design and construction related documents; utilize standard techniques, procedures, and criteria while gaining understanding of advanced methods of construction and innovative solutions for water infrastructure projects from planning through construction. As a mid‑level, you will lead civil design tasks for projects, delegate to junior civil engineers, and be responsible for accuracy, completeness, and schedule of the tasks you oversee.

    In this role, you will receive opportunities to increase your technical and leadership skills to grow into a discipline lead or project manager for complex projects.
  • Collaborate: With Client and AECOM counterparts for analysis for dams, reservoirs, levees, canals, tunnels, pipelines, flood protection systems, and conveyance facilities.
  • Deliver Quality: Oversee and review work produced by others, as well as following all quality control measures to ensure timely and accurate results.
  • Mentor: Delegate tasks, direct and oversee the work of others and act as a technical mentor.
Additional work includes
  • Ensure compliance of design with all applicable standards and regulations, providing the seal and signature of the professional engineer.
  • Perform peer reviews and conduct site visits at active construction sites to examine field conditions, site work that is under construction, and as built conditions.
  • Resident Engineer during construction, if you have interest. These are usually assignments that last more than 6 months and require travel. Interest in this type of work is not required. However, if you are interested in this type of work, we have many opportunities.
  • Assist with proposals and presentations, as needed.
Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or related engineering field and 4+ years of relevant experience with a focus on design of water resources and/or transportation related projects or demonstrated equivalency of education and/or experience
  • California Professional Engineering (PE) license or ability to obtain within 6 months.
  • Expertise in Bently Open Roads or AutoCAD Civil 3D or ARCGIS.
  • Valid Driver’s License required
