One of Insight Global's clients is looking for a structural engineer passionate about structural steel design to work in the Sacramento office on a variety of commercial and industrial projects throughout Northern and Central California. This position will head their project management department to maintain their commitment to quality.
Day-to-Day- Review RFIs/submittals, field notes, and priority emails; slot responses by due date and project criticality. Scan the active project board (multi‑project environment)
- Approve/return shop drawings, connection schedules, and erection plans with clear markups (e.g., Bluebeam).
- Coordination communication with client/EOR, GC, and inspectors: resolve design clarifications, negotiate practical connection alternatives, and agree on any change‑order triggers.
- For active erection work, schedule or conduct site walks (dimensional checks, fit‑up/weld observations); issue field reports and NCR dispositions when needed.
- Update schedules, budgets, and earned value snapshots, flag risks and mitigation
- Align with shop/production on release sequences (lotting), material drop dates, and inspection milestones; ensure ERP/production tracking (e.g., Power Fab) reflects the latest drawing transmittals and holds.
- 5 + years of structural steel engineering experience
- Bachelor of Science degree in Structural, Civil, or Architectural Engineering, preferably with a structural steel emphasis
- Strong understanding of AISC and AWS codes
- Previous experience in a managerial or lead position
- Strong understanding of commercial building materials, systems, and assemblies of structural steel
