Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineer
About the Company
The company is a leading developer and builder of hyperscale data centers engineered for flexibility, sustainability, and high-performance computing.
The organization specializes digital infrastructure, integrating high-voltage power systems, distributed energy resources, and advanced protection schemes to support AI/ML-driven computational loads. This is an opportunity to join a technically elite team shaping the electrical backbone of hyperscale data infrastructure.
About the Position
The Data Center Electrical Engineer (PE or P.Eng) will design and oversee the electrical plant across the full product lifecycle—from concept and detailed engineering through commissioning and operations.
This role is heavily focused on High Voltage (HV) and Medium Voltage (MV) systems design for hyperscale data centers, including switch gear, transformers, distribution systems, and advanced protection and controls.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and review electrical schematics, single-line diagrams, layouts, and specifications for HV and MV systems
- Perform and oversee detailed power system studies, including:
- Load flow analysis
- Short circuit analysis
- Protective device coordination studies
- Arc flash and fault analysis
- Develop and maintain detailed electrical system models in ETAP, SKM, or PSSE
- Analyze complex operating scenarios, including AI/ML load fluctuations and MV fault conditions
- Lead protection and coordination studies for grid-connected and islanded (microgrid) modes
- Design and implement IEC 61850-based protection systems
- Support distributed energy resource (DER) integration, including BESS and PV systems
- Coordinate installation, testing, and commissioning of HV/MV equipment
- Ensure compliance with NEC, IEEE, NFPA 70E, and other applicable codes
- Own power system performance issues from conceptual design through site installation
This is a highly technical, individual contributor role within a lean, high-performing, flat organizational structure.
Requirements
- Master’s or PhD in Electrical Engineering
- Practical, real-world experience (not purely academic or R&D) in mission-critical or data center environments
- Experience designing HV and MV electrical systems for data centers
- Proficiency in ETAP, SKM, or PSSE
- Strong background in:
- Short-circuit and fault analysis
- Protection and coordination studies
- Arc flash studies
- Experience implementing IEC 61850-based protection systems
- Experience integrating distributed energy resources (BESS, PV) in microgrid environments
- Familiarity with IEEE 1547, 2800, 2030.7 standards
- Deep knowledge of NEC, IEEE, and NFPA 70E standards
- Professional Engineer (PE) or P.Eng licensure
- Direct data center or mission critical experience required
Benefits
- $235,000 – $340,000 compensation
- Strong benefits package (medical, dental, vision)
- Long-term incentive eligibility
- Opportunity to work on cutting-edge hyperscale and AI-driven data center infrastructure
- High-impact technical role within a forward-thinking organization
