Position Overview /DutiesChief of the Inspection Section has the responsibility for overall supervision of the Inspection of Completed Works (ICW) program which involves all completed structures turned over to a non-federal sponsor, including levees, channels, flood walls, pump stations, closure structures and a few dams. As the responsible manager and technical specialist on this subject matter, incumbent provides management and technical expertise, experienced judgment and guidance to counterparts within the District, other governmental agencies, private interests and Architect-Engineer (A-E) firms.
This work routinely requires resolution of problems of significant depth and complexity. Other responsibilities include managing the development of inspection reports, instrumentation and other reports and the preparation of construction documents for related projects. Coordinates funding requirements and program management activities with Major Subordinate Commands and Headquarters, U. S. Army Corps of Engineers (HQUSACE) representing the District as a senior authority on engineering matters related to these programs.

Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in engineering. To be acceptable, the program must: (1) lead to a bachelor’s degree (or higher degree) in a school of engineering with at least one program accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) ; OR (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced that first year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics;
(b) strength of materials (stress‑strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics.
To qualify for this position, the candidate must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service which includes experience leading engineering inspections of channels, flood walls, pump stations, closure structures and dams with professional knowledge to identify deviations from standards and preparation of corrective actions.
