    Position Description

    Job Purpose

    The Senior Field Service Engineer is responsible for performing field activities related to Municipal Water and Wastewater Treatment Plants, Pump Stations, and other process facilities. This role focuses on the commissioning, startup, troubleshooting, and servicing of PLC and SCADA systems, network and communication equipment, instrumentation, motor control centers (MCCs), variable frequency drives (VFDs), and electrical power distribution equipment.

    As a senior member of the field team, this position provides leadership, technical direction, and hands‑on mentorship to other Engineers and Technicians, ensuring a high standard of technical execution and professional development.

    The Senior Field Service Engineer ensures all work is performed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with company standards, contract requirements, and project schedules. The role collaborates closely with project engineers, project managers, internal support staff, contractors, and clients to ensure successful project delivery and a positive customer experience.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    Essential duties and other responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

    Control System Startup and Loop Tests
  • Perform inspections, start‑up and troubleshooting of UL 508 Control Panels and SCADA Systems.
  • Conduct complete loop testing from field instruments through PLCs and SCADA.
  • Execute full system, strategy, and operational testing of complete control system infrastructure including testing and modifications to PLC Programs, SCADA Graphics, OIT Programs, and Network Configurations.
  • Troubleshoot and correct deficiencies as needed.
  • Communications and Networking
  • Configure and troubleshoot network, radio, cellular, and hardwired data communication systems used in plant, SCADA and telemetry networks.
  • Configure and troubleshoot devices/networks that utilize fieldbus technologies such as HART and Profibus.
  • Control System Maintenance and Service
  • Provide on‑going service and support to clients on control system software and hardware. Modify programs and configurations to meet client and project needs. Perform patch and security updates.
  • Instrumentation
  • Calibrate, configure, and service flow, level, pressure, and analytical instruments commonly found in water and wastewater facilities (e.g., Suspended Solids, CL2/Chemical, pH, DO, and related sensors).
  • Electrical and Power
  • Verify proper installation, grounding, and operation of electrical equipment.
  • Startup, test, and troubleshoot MCCs, VFDs, ATSs, and power distribution equipment up to 480V.
  • Adjust motor protection, breaker and overload settings.
