Job Description and DutiesUnder the direction of the Information Technology Services Division (ITSD) Cybersecurity & Engineering (C&E) Supervisor I, the Physical Security Engineer acts as an advanced specialist on a wide array of physical-security related functions for the California State Lottery (Lottery). The duties for this position pertain to technical design and support for the Lottery’s physical security system, including the technical maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and installation of various hardware components used by the system at all Lottery facilities.
The duties for this position are focused in the Information Security Engineering, System Engineering, Software Engineering, Client Services, and Business Technology Management domains; however, work may be assigned in other domains as needed.
This position requires a current Information Technology Specialist I exam. If you need to take the exam or if your score has expired, to gain list eligibility.
Location and TeleworkThis position is headquartered at the Lottery Headquarters in Sacramento and is eligible for a hybrid telework schedule. Employees must be able to report to their assigned headquarters office as assigned. Travel expense to and from the assigned headquarters are the responsibility of the employee. Eligibility for telework requires the employee to reside in California per California Government Code Section 14200 which states: “telecommuting means the partial or total substitution of computers or telecommunication technologies, or both, for the commute to work by employees residing in California.”
WorkingConditions
The Physical Security Engineer will work in a fast-paced environment, with competing priorities, and critical deliverables.
- Schedule: This position supports the Lottery during normal business hours from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. unless otherwise approved by the unit manager. Weekends, long and/or irregular hours, after-hours work, and holiday work may be required.
- Travel: Statewide, overnight travel may be required.
- Other: This position is required to carry a Lottery issued cell phone. This position is required to be reachable outside of normal business hours.
- Experience as a Physical Security Engineer/Technician or equivalent training.
- Experience administering and maintaining camera recording and monitoring, access control, alarm management, and other physical security systems, tools, and platforms.
- Experience installing and configuring physical security devices.
- Experience performing physical security monitoring and incident response/remediation.
- IT infrastructure support or system engineering/technician experience.
- Experience supporting physical security system workstations, kiosks, and command centers.
- Project experience in a physical security engineer or technician role.
- Honeywell Security or equivalent physical security system related certification.
