Job Summary
Under minimal supervision, the NDT Tech II performs basic nondestructive testing to verify the structural integrity of titanium and aluminum rotating hardware. They use conventional and automated ultrasonic, radiographic, phased array ultrasonic testing (PAUT) and other NDT test methods, e.g., FPI, to perform NDT on aircraft parts and evaluate test results by analyzing and interpreting data in accordance with customer requirements.
This position is designated as safety-sensitive under DOT regulations and is subject to random drug and alcohol testing.
- Perform NDT tests on various rotating hardware.
- Undertake training in NDT methods to achieve Level 2 in eddy current, fluorescent penetrant, radiographic, and ultrasonic testing to Specification NAS-410.
- Implement procedures, instructions, and techniques as required.
- Perform control checks on test‑method capability.
- Document and advise local team members of test outcomes.
- Review and implement customer requirements such as engineering drawings, process specifications, and other industry standards.
- Develop and maintain processes, test methodology, and procedures.
- Understand manufacturing methods and part construction as it relates to NDT data.
- Operate ultrasonic equipment including A‑scan and resonance scopes, phased‑array equipment, and automated scanning systems.
- Operate X‑ray equipment such as robotic scanners and computed radiography data acquisition systems.
- Operate other test equipment such as eddy‑current scopes and helium mass spectrometers.
- Identify and investigate new technologies, processes, and/or procedures to maintain or improve NDT capabilities and efficiencies.
- Interface with engineers, internal and external customers, manufacturing personnel, and management to improve processes.
- Provide guidance, leadership, and instruction to other NDT technicians.
- Integrate improvements to realize benefits in cost, cycle time, and customer satisfaction.
- Perform other assignments and tasks as directed.
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
- 3+ years of experience utilizing NDT in a manufacturing environment.
- Must be a U.S. citizen or Green‑Card holder due to program security clearance requirements and/or SSA requirements.
- Proficiency in English, both verbal and written, sufficient to understand and effectively follow written safety procedures, company policies, work instructions, operations manuals, and more in a manufacturing environment.
- Reliable and satisfactory attendance (essential job function).
- GKN experience.
- Previous experience in an FAA repair work‑center.
- Project / program management experience.
- Familiarity with AS9145/ APQP process or equivalent.
- Experience in a classroom setting of NDT training of metallic and/or nonmetallic materials.
- Approval of accumulated hours required for on‑the‑job training and/or certification.
- Must acquire and maintain NDT certification by passing required written and practical examinations.
- Knowledge of conventional and automated, robotic testing systems; good communications and computer skills; and ability to work effectively as a team member.
- Manual dexterity.
- Ability to stand for long periods of time.
- Lift up to 50 pounds.
- Withstand loud noise of a manufacturing shop environment.
- Good vision with or without correction (must not be color blind).
- Only NDT tasks.
The compensation range is between $28.00 – $32.00 per hour.
