Position overview:
We are seeking a Welding Coordinator to take ownership of weld planning and execution across complex rolling stock systems—including locomotives, light rail vehicles, passenger coaches, and bogies.
This is a high-impact, hands-on role where you’ll bridge engineering, manufacturing, and quality to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant weld processes in a safety-critical environment.
This is a first shift position.
What your day may look like:
- As the Welding Coordinator, you’ll serve as the technical authority for welding processes, with the autonomy to make independent decisions to ensure quality and compliance.
- Own all aspects of weld planning and execution for rail vehicle manufacturing
- Develop and standardize Weld Plans, WPS, and PQR documentation
- Ensure compliance with EN 15085 and AWS D1.1, D1.2, D1.3, and D1.6 standards
- Translate engineering drawings, models, and specifications into optimized production weld strategies
- Design and support implementation of weld cells, jigs, and fixtures
- Drive continuous improvement of manual, semi-automated, and automated weld processes
- Lead welder qualification activities and oversee inspection planning
- Support supplier quality initiatives, including audits and first article inspections
- Partner with engineering, operations, and leadership to deliver projects under complex conditions
- Contribute to bids and proposals by reviewing welding requirements and feasibility
What will make you successful:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Welding Engineering, or related field
- AWS Certified Weld Inspector (CWI)
- Deep understanding of welding prep
- 3+ years of experience in complex, safety-critical weld environments (rail, aviation, naval, automotive, or heavy equipment industries preferred)
- Proven hands-on problem-solving experience with implementation of corrective actions
- Demonstrated success in driving projects under challenging conditions
- Strong project management skills (planning, scheduling, budgeting, ROI analysis)
- Ability to effectively collaborate from the shop floor to the boardroom
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
What would make you stand out:
- ASQ Certified Quality Engineer or Six Sigma / Lean certifications
- International Welding Engineer (IWE) or Technologist (IWT) certification
- Advanced degree (MS) in Industrial, Manufacturing, or Mechanical Engineering
- Bilingual (German/English or Spanish/English)
- Experience with MRP/ERP systems

This position is located in Sacramento, CA. The salary range for this position is $82,212 - $110,976 per year. The actual wage offered may be lower or higher depending on budget and candidate experience, knowledge, skills, qualifications and premium geographic location.
