Associate Telecommunications Engineer
Responsibly ensuring engineering services for the Public Safety Communications (PSC) meet the state’s critical operational requirements under the direction of a Senior Telecommunications Engineer.
Assistant Telecommunications EngineerProvides direction to maintenance technical staff for installation and maintenance of new systems, offers solutions to problems with existing systems, assists engineering lead persons in large implementations, develops technical reports, equipment selection criteria, project cost estimates, and reports risks to budget, schedule, and scope.
Electrical EngineerAssists Associate and Senior engineers in directing maintenance staff for installation and maintenance of new systems, participates in developing technical reports and equipment selection criteria, provides project cost estimates, and reports risks to project budget, schedule, or scope.
Qualifications- Three or more years of experience designing or developing Land Mobile Radio (LMR) systems, including RF subsystems such as antennas, filters, combiners, and site configuration.
- Three or more years of experience performing RF system design, propagation modeling, FCC licensing, field survey reporting, and system performance testing.
- One or more years of hands‑on operation of advanced RF test equipment, including Communications Service Monitor.
- One or more years of practical experience with IP networking and architecture, preferably in a Motorola ASTRO 25 environment or similar P25 core network.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with demonstrated ability to produce design plans, engineering reports, test documentation, training material, and PowerPoint briefings.
- Ability to work independently, lead small technical efforts, and provide guidance to junior engineering staff.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with the ability to diagnose complex RF, networking, and system integration issues.
- CCNA, Network+, or advanced networking certifications.
- P25 Radio System Fundamentals, P25 Trunking, or Motorola ASTRO 25 System Architecture training.
- Additional RF engineering or microwave communications certifications.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Telecommunications, or a related technical field.
- Relevant graduate coursework or specialized RF/network training is a plus.
Hybrid Telework – Eligible for a hybrid work schedule with potential additional in‑office days.
DMV Pull Program – Position requires a valid driver’s license. Applicants must provide license details.
Conflict of Interest – Designated under the Conflict of Interest Code and required to complete Form 700 within 30 days of appointment.
