AECOM is seeking a Mechanical Intern to be based in the Sacramento, CA office. The Mechanical Intern will work in a highly collaborative environment on a wide range of projects. The ideal candidate will have a passion for designing and building mechanical HVAC systems. The Intern will be responsible for performing basic technical calculations and design under the supervision of a senior mechanical engineer.
This position is expected to begin in Spring 2025.
Our Buildings + Places practice includes architecture, interiors, building and system engineering, urbanism, and planning (inclusive of landscape design), strategy +, economics, technology solutions, asset advisory, and cost and program management. This diverse team assists our clients from strategy through project realization, creating positive outcomes for those who occupy and use the buildings and environments we help to create. Our Sacramento studio focuses on the Commercial/Corporate, Science and Technology, Higher Education, and Federal market sectors.

Some of our recent projects include tenant build‑out spaces, a water reclamation office building and lab facility, a Joint Public Safety Training Center, Package distribution warehouses, and cutting‑edge scientific research facilities.
- Performs a variety of assignments and tasks designed to develop professional work knowledge and abilities while working under close supervision.
- Assisting with calculations, drafting, and setting up project design plans and documents.
- Provide HVAC and plumbing equipment research support.
- Communicating with vendors and coordinating learning sessions.
- Candidates must be pursuing a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering and must have completed at least one year of study.
- Candidates who have recently graduated with a bachelor’s degree and plan to continue with a master’s degree are eligible to apply for these positions.
- Recent graduates must have been enrolled in their bachelor’s degree in the most previous school term with an interest in pursuing an advanced degree in the same or similar discipline at the conclusion of the internship.
- Assist in the production of all phases of the design process.
- General knowledge of architectural and engineering drawings.
- Some knowledge of AutoCAD and/or Revit.
- Knowledgeable in Microsoft Office Suite of programs.
- Well organized and possesses an innovative mindset.
- Relocation assistance is not available for this position.
- Sponsorship for US employment authorization is not available now or in the future for this position.
- Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications. The expected range is $20.00/hour - $25.00/hour.
