Job Description and Duties

DTSC is hiring an Engineering Geologist in our Sacramento Field Office to serve as Project Manager in the Federal Facilities Unit in the Site Mitigation and Restoration Program. Apply today for a great opportunity to work with a multi-disciplinary, cross-program team to protect California’s people, communities, and environment from toxic substances!

As an Engineering Geologist you will have the opportunity to:

  • Evaluate geologic, hydrologic, and geochemical data of the surface and subsurface to characterize the occurrence and migration of contaminants.
  • Review and prepare cross sections, maps, charts, and graphs that illustrate the physical and geochemical setting of contaminated sites.
  • Recommend specific locations of monitoring devices to detect the presence and movement of contaminants in soil, soil gas, groundwater, and air.
  • Review and assist in the development of sound conceptual site models as framework for effective investigation strategies.
  • Plan and manage a workload consisting of one or more assignments on projects with sometimes conflicting deadlines to ensure all assignments are completed on time and within budget.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate project schedules to facilitate allocation of resources.
Desirable Qualifications We Look For
  • Knowledge and/or experience in geological characterization and site cleanup (i.e., Preliminary Assessments, Site Inspections, Remedial Investigations and Feasibility Studies, remedial designs and removal actions).
  • Experience in managing multiple environmental investigation and cleanup projects with sometimes conflicting deadlines.
