Engineering Aide; Land Surveying

The Position

Under direct supervision, the Engineering Aide performs simple routine engineering work in the field or in the office; and does other related duties. The eligible list from this recruitment may be used to fill vacancies for Engineering Aides in various departments. The current vacancy we are recruiting for is with the Department of Community Development, and will perform work associated with land surveying.

Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Makes simple mathematical calculations.
• Indexes and files plans, maps and survey notes.
• Answer routing requests for information.
• Searches for survey monuments in support of monument verification.
• Plot information from legal descriptions, plans and other documents to maps.
• Does simple drafting and lettering.
• Uses AutoCAD to produce survey plats and maps.
• Performs administrative tasks as assigned.

Knowledge of High school level mathematics to include algebra and plane geometry. Ability to

• Do computing, lettering and tracing neatly and accurately
• Follow directions and established procedures in performance of routine engineering duties
• Work cooperatively with others
• Exercise skill in the care and use of handtools
• Clean and care for surveying instruments
• Read and write English at a level necessary for successful job performance.

Minimum Qualifications There are no formal education or experience requirements. Special Requirements License Requirements:
Some positions may require possession of a valid California Class C Driver License prior to appointment.

Physical Requirements:

Incumbents in some positions will be required to perform manual labor which may include lifting and carrying bundles of survey stakes and sledge hammers to drive survey stakes and hubs and must possess sufficient eye-hand coordination to enable use of hand tools when searching for survey monuments and removing brush. Probationary Period The probationary period for this classification is six (6) months.
