In this role you’ll have the opportunity to work on flood risk management systems, locks and dams, flood walls, navigation floodgates, stormwater pumping stations, outfalls, spillways, and ecosystem restoration. Our department works on projects and with teams across the nation and the world. We bring together the skills of project managers, civil engineers, H&H engineers, geotechnical engineers, structural engineers, and environmental and planning specialists to provide integrated, sustainable and cost-effective solutions.
Responsibilities- Lead the preparation of plans, specifications, cost estimates, technical reports, memos, and engineering design and construction documents; utilize standard techniques, procedures, and criteria while gaining understanding of advanced methods of construction and innovative solutions for water infrastructure projects from planning through construction.
- Delegate to junior civil engineers and be responsible for accuracy, completeness, and schedule of the tasks you oversee.
- Collaborate with client and AECOM counterparts for analysis of dams, reservoirs, levees, canals, tunnels, pipelines, flood protection systems, and conveyance facilities.
- Oversee and review work produced by others, following all quality control measures to ensure timely and accurate results.
- Act as a technical mentor, delegating tasks and overseeing the work of others.
- Ensure compliance of design with all applicable standards and regulations, providing the seal and signature of the professional engineer.
- Perform peer reviews and conduct site visits at active construction sites to examine field conditions, site work that is under construction, and as-built conditions.
- Resident Engineer during construction, if interested; assignments typically last more than 6 months and may require travel.
- Assist with proposals and presentations, as needed.
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or related engineering field and 4+ years of relevant experience with a focus on design of water resources and/or transportation related projects (or demonstrated equivalency of education and/or experience).
- California Professional Engineering (PE) license or ability to obtain within 6 months.
- Valid Driver’s License required.
- 10+ years of relevant experience with a focus on design of water resources and/or transportation related projects.
- Experience working on projects for agencies such as DWR, USACE, USIBWC, FEMA, NRCS, Reclamation, and Caltrans.
- Expertise in Bentley Open Roads, AutoCAD Civil 3D, or ArcGIS.
- Master’s degree in civil engineering.
- Experience with HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, HY-8 modeling software.
- Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, contractors, and clients.
