About this position
LiCAP Technologies is a Sacramento-based battery materials company commercializing the Activated Dry Electrode® (ADE®) process— a solvent-free manufacturing technology that cuts battery production costs, energy use, and carbon emissions by up to 70%. Named a Fast Company Top 10 Most Innovative Company in Automotive (2026), LiCAP is scaling a 500 MWh/year cathode production line at its new facility and supplying leading automotive OEMs.
We're a 50-person team at a pivotal growth stage, backed by major grant funding and commercial contracts. If you want your work to matter for the energy transition, this is where to be.
As our Equipment/Design Engineer, you'll design and develop the mechanical systems behind LICAP's battery electrode production equipment — taking new electrode processes from concept through to large-scale manufacturing. You'll own designs end to end: mechanical assemblies, schedules, BOMs, and performance parameters, working with vendors and cross-functional teams to build and validate the equipment that brings our advanced dry-electrode technology to production scale.
This is a hands-on role for an engineer who wants to see their designs move from the drawing board to the factory floor.
- Design mechanical assemblies for battery electrode production equipment, develop schedules, BOM, and performance parameters.
- Research and develop new battery electrode processes to accommodate manufacturing of new products for large-scale production.
- Resolve problems by examining and evaluating data and select the appropriate corrective actions.
- Research and select vendors for construction of mechanical equipment designs.
- Test and evaluate vendor assemblies for performance and adherence to design specifications.
- Organize and participate in project meetings.
- BS or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics or ability to show significant relevant experience.
- More than 5 years of working experience in industrial machine design.
- Familiar with the fundamental theory of flat rolling and roll forming machines.
- Familiar with finite element analysis methods.
- Familiar with Solidworks design software.
- Have innovative ideas and a high degree of creativity. Have a track record of success in developing new technologies and products.
- Have significant experience in new materials, design processes, product development, and the ability to transfer new products into large-scale production equipment.
- Familiar with statistical analysis methods and the ability to design and evaluate test methodologies. Able to determine material and product specifications and determine required design tolerances.
- Have excellent communication skills and writing ability.
